This weekend brought us several games across the state of Iowa. We had some groups competing at Creighton University for an IA vs NE showdown. We had teams traveling on the road, playing ranked opponents in the blazing cold and we even had a conference basketball tournament take place.

Let's check out some of the players who put together weekends to remember! -

Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!

It's nice to see Jaliyah Kinnetz on the floor once against for the Johnston Dragons. The Dragons have had their challenges this Winter but they have braved the storm and put together an undefeated mark up until this point without Kinnetz. Now that she is back, this just add's to their fire power in all aspects at the guard position. Last night, the Dragons took on Marian High School from Nebraska at a neutral location and they did they thing, winning by 20+ when the final buzzer sounded. In this battle Kinnetz was one fire. She was 6/6 from three point and 8/8 from the field in total for 22 points. You could call this a coming out party on the season for Kinnetz. She showed what she can really do and this group is going to be able to ride this momentum moving into the Post season. There is no doubt about it.

St. Albert played one of the best teams from the state of Nebraska yesterday when they went to Creighton University to take on the Pender Pendragons. The end result is not what St. Albert would have wanted as they fell just short of victory but someone for their team that stood out as a constant was PG - [player_tooltip player_id='751962' first='Eleanor' last='Coughlin']. Coughlin was her usual self, controlling pace of play and setting up her team's offense in transition. She was one of the higher scoring producers that this group had on the evening. Which is not always what you want from your starting pass-first PG because that means that others are producing as much but you'll take it. All in all, Coughlin is a standout soccer prospect to my knowledge so I don't think college ball is in her cards for her but if she wanted too, she would have some options. The way she can handle pressure and make the correct decisions is impactful and that stands out each time she takes the floor.

CR - Washington High School went on the road and recorded a big win against Waukee to move their overall record to 10-3. A big reason for this victory came on the inside of the paint with the play of [player_tooltip player_id='1143194' first='Sira' last='Doumbia']. Doumbia is a 6'3 Center, that we mentioned earlier this week because she had a standout game on the defensive end in one of her more recent matchups. In this specific contest against Waukee Doumbia registered 25 points (12/18) in the paint, along with 16 rebounds. This is as dominating as any performance that we have seen across the state this season up until this point with the most important factor being that they won the contest in the end. If they can work off of this type of production moving into the Playoff's, they might give some other teams a run for their money when it matters the most.

Lana Alley was a key component in winning their conference title for Fremont -Mills High School yesterday. Alley, a 5'7 SF, might be undersized but she plays competitive ball. She uses her size to her advantage by squeezing but opponents on the consistent basis, usually finishing or rebounding at the rim in a number of different ways on both ends. Alley specifically helped her team win with 17 points (6/10) and 10 rebounds. She was a beast on the glass and pretty efficient overall while playing her type of game. Things you have to respect from an outside perspective.

Central Decatur got their 10th win yesterday against Chariton High School. A major reason for this success is because of their Senior, Center in the middle of the lane - [player_tooltip player_id='1447987' first='Breegan' last='Lindsey']. Lindsey led her team with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. As you might be able to tell, Lindsey is the force that pushes this group when things get tough. She doesn't really leave the inside of the paint unless she is screening within the three point line or running the floor in transition, rim to rim. This strategy isn't a bad one. Their biggest factor will be wondering who else will step up when Lindsey starts to get double or even triple teamed. If they can figure that out, they are a decent place to be in moving forward.
