After Mother Nature postponed my original coverage date, I decided Thursday's game against West Bloomfield would be the perfect game to attend. The matchup did not disappoint. The teams split their regular-season meetings last season, and I was confident this game would be another grudge match. Stoney Creek started hot, up 15-7 after one, but West Bloomfield mounted a comeback in the second to take a 23-22 lead at the half.

Both teams stiffened on defense in the third, and the Cougars took a slim 29-28 lead into the fourth. The Lakers trailed by three, 41-38, with an opportunity to tie it up in the closing seconds, but Stoney Creek's discipline on defense eliminated any chances for a buzzer-beater bucket to tie the game. The Cougars remain undefeated in league play and will face off with Clarkston for first place in the OAA-Red on February 3rd. Here are the five prospects from both squads who grabbed my attention in the gym.

Sheridan shouldered a lion's share of the load for West Bloomfield, leading the way with 19 pionts against Stoney Creek. Her gutsy performance kept the Lakers close down the stretch and provided more support to her claim as a Miss Basketball Finalist. She drained two smooth triples in the corner and remained unaffected by a closeout foul, sinking the and-one straightaway three. Sheridan slashed to the rim to score an and-one layup; she also connected on a pair of mid-range jumpers. Sheridan split defenders with a quick crossover dribble on a drive, absorbed contact in the lane, and converted the timely bucket with under a minute to go.

Iyana looked like one of the top post prospects in the state heading into her sophomore season after a decorated freshman year and a dominant summer at team camps. She missed time due to injury, and it's great to see her back on the court making an impact. Iyana caught a pass with soft hands and finished the layup off two feet. She knocked down three key free throws, and her five points in the second quarter helped the Lakers take a 23-22 lead into the half. Iyana has a lot of next-level upside with her strength and length. She'll be a breakout candidate during the travel season.

Bailey is a freshman guard whose shifty quickness and confidence caught my attention right away. She accelerated downhill to score a drive-by layup with a soft touch off the glass. Bailey used a fast rip move to create space and dropped in a tough contested floater. She scored another floater after splitting the defense with a speedy crossover and made a great kick-out pass for an assist on a drive. Bailey has a bright future ahead of her in the West Bloomfield back court and will be a prospect to watch for [program_tooltip program_id='712670' first='Michigan' last='Storm Elite'] this spring.

Jadelynn is a Swiss army knife kind of player who does it all for Stoney Creek; her versatility and dynamic skills set is extremely valuable for the Cougars. She ran the floor in transition, knocked down multiple mid-range jumpers, sank a triple up top, and closed out hard to block a shot on the perimeter. Jadelynn dropped into the passing lane for a steal and buried a clutch corner jumper to give Stoney a 33-30 lead with 3:21 remaining. She poured in 13 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Cougars.

Calista secured the number one ranking at small forward over the summer, and that shoe fits better and better every day. She's filled out her long frame and continues to demonstrate a calm, confident, and collected demeanor on the court. Her skills, physical attributes, and abilities are fit to be a high-level wing-forward at the college level. Calista shouldered a lion's share of the load against West Bloomfield and was determined to keep the Cougars undefeated conference record intact. She earned many trips to the free-throw line by making smart backdoor cuts and driving to the rim with a full head of steam. Calista dished out a quick touch pass for an assist inside and made a great kick-out pass to the perimeter for another assist. She attacked the glass, secured offensive rebounds, and finished put-backs in traffic off two feet. Calista pinned her defender down low, caught the entry pass with soft hands, and scored the bunny. She scanned the floor with her eyes up while pushing the ball in transition, anticipated a pass to snag a steal, and walled up to block a shot. She scored nine of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and shot an efficient 11 of 14 from the charity stripe. Calista grabbed 16 rebounds to complete the double-double and added four steals in the win.
