On January 2nd and 3rd, I was able to catch not all but quite a bit of the games in the Cactus Division of the Epic Tourney's New Year Classic. The Cactus Division of the tournament was held at Williams Field High School in Gilbert. In the championship game, the Tuba City Warriors defeated a very tough San Carlos Braves team.

Curtis was the engine that made things go for Tuba City and, unofficially, the most valuable player of the division. The freshman point guard played beyond her years, showing impressive composure, scoring instincts, and feel for the game. She picked her spots well offensively and never forced the action. What stood out most was her command—she understood when to attack and when to keep teammates involved.

Begay delivered a strong all-around weekend, impacting games in multiple ways. Offensively, she was steady and efficient, but her value really showed on the defensive end and on the glass. She defended numerous positions, rebounded well, and made winning plays that didn't show up in the box score. Begay's versatility and motor were key to Tuba City's success throughout the tournament.

Wong continues to separate herself as one of the most skilled posts in Arizona—and one of the best passers in the state, regardless of position. She showcased her ability to score on the block, face up defenders, step out and shoot threes, and make good reads out of double teams. Her court vision is elite for a post player, consistently creating easy looks for teammates.

Aguirre impressed me with her quickness, creativity, and ability to control tempo. The shifty point guard consistently got into the paint, collapsing defenses and making plays for herself and others. She showed good feel as a facilitator and kept defenders on their heels with her change of pace. Aguirre's ability to create advantages off the bounce stood out throughout the weekend.

This was my first live look at Brown, and she did not disappoint. The senior forward has polished footwork in the post, soft hands, and a strong rebounding presence. She finishes through contact, secures the ball cleanly, and plays with physicality inside. Brown consistently carved out space on the glass and provided Buckeye with a consistent inside presence.
