<p>On the first Monday back to start the new year, we have a Sunflower Conference battle between the <strong>Olathe North Lady Eagles</strong>, who come in with a 5–1 record on the season. They will face <strong>Washburn Rural</strong> from Topeka, Kansas, who enter the matchup undefeated at 4–0. Both teams are looking to keep their winning ways going in what should be an exciting battle to kick off the new year.</p>

<p>Washburn Rural came out blazing from beyond the three-point line to start the game, but as North settled in defensively, the Lady Eagles took control and pulled away for a 50–35 road victory.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Lee was able to find her spots late in the first half, knocking down a smooth pull-up jumper. She got herself going in the third quarter by scoring in transition for an easy bucket. Lee followed that with a pair of free throws and then buried a deep three from the wing in the third. She stayed hot in the fourth, knocking down two more shots from beyond the arc.</p>

<p>Williams showed her ability to shoot the ball early, knocking down a midrange jumper followed by a three-pointer. She controlled the tempo throughout the game, pushing the pace when she had numbers and slowing things down when she didn't. As North picked up the pace in the second quarter, Williams did a great job staying active, coming up with steals and finding teammates for easy layups. Early in the third quarter, she attacked downhill and finished at the rim for another easy bucket.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Danae provided a spark for the Lady Eagles, doing all the little things while also emerging as a key contributor on the offensive end. She knocked down a three-pointer in both the first and second halves, giving North timely scoring when they needed it.</p>

Brynn also showed her ability to put the ball on the floor and play through contact, converting a tough and-one early in the second and finishing with another strong left-handed layup late in the game.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Ella was solid on defense all night and got her offense going in the 3rd as she banged home a three midway through. Ella did a great job of leading the group and helping handle the pressure of ON. She passed the ball well and trying to keep the group fluent in there offence. </p>
