Tuesday nights are always a great opportunity to catch high-level high school girls basketball in the state of Kansas. On this night, I was able to watch the Lawrence High School Lady Lions, who came in off a strong start to the season at 5–1, take on the Topeka High School Lady Trojans, who entered the matchup at 2–4. Both teams featured strong guard play, setting the stage for some exciting head-to-head matchups.

Rayton made her presence felt early with a tough layup through contact. She displayed elite athleticism and speed throughout the night, consistently making it difficult for defenders to stay in front of her. She got downhill at will—not only finishing at the rim, but also creating quality opportunities for her teammates. When the lane wasn't available, she confidently knocked down shots from beyond the arc. On the defensive end, Rayton was relentless, taking on the challenge of guarding one of Lawrence's top players and setting the tone with her effort and intensity.

Caryl was consistent around the rim all night, showcasing polished footwork and the ability to finish effectively with either hand. She was strong on the glass and demonstrated her versatility by securing rebounds, pushing the break, and making sound decisions that led to easy scoring opportunities. Defensively, she was impactful in the paint, using her strength and toughness to deny opposing post players deep position. She also extended her range by confidently knocking down shots from the perimeter.

Marshall did an excellent job controlling and dictating the pace of the game, showing a strong understanding of when to push in transition and when to slow things down. She consistently scored from the midrange, knocking down pull-up jumpers throughout the night. Defensively, she was a constant menace, coming up with multiple steals by picking the offense's pocket and turning them into fast-break layups. She also showed her ability to involve her teammates, creating scoring opportunities and keeping everyone engaged offensively.

Macyn got off to a slow start but found her rhythm late in the second quarter with a steal and a bucket just before halftime. Known for her shooting ability, Ramsay saw one fall midway through the third to help build momentum. She also competed well on the defensive end, taking on one of the toughest matchups of the night and holding her own throughout the game.

Cami showcased her versatility throughout the game, initiating the offense at the top and handling the ball effectively in transition. She knocked down shots from three and consistently put pressure on the defense by attacking off the bounce and getting to the basket. When her drives didn't result in finishes, they often led to trips to the free-throw line. She was outstanding on the glass, particularly on the defensive end, seemingly coming down with every missed shot. Cami also made her presence felt defensively by protecting the rim and blocking shots.
