When you look through the leader board, in Wisconsin high school basketball, it is absolutely littered with an awesome group of sophomores! Here are a few of those standouts in part 1.

[player_tooltip player_id='874372' first='Nyajuacni' last='Riak']-Madison LaFollette

There might not be a more dominant player, in all of the state, than the 6-2 Riak. The numbers speak for themselves. 31 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 3 steals, and about a block and a half per game. 7th ranked nationally, Riak was invited to the Team USA U16 tryouts and holds multiple offers from top NCAA division 1 programs including: Alabama, Iowa State, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin just to name a few. She has helped the Lancers, winners of 13 games last season, to a 12-2 start good for 2nd in the Big Eight conference with a showdown, Wednesday, against current leader Madison Memorial.

[player_tooltip player_id='992499' first='Josie' last='Christian']-Lomira

When you think of complete players, on both sides of the ball, it is hard to not immediately think of Christian. The Prep Hoops #24 ranked player, a recent addition to the 1,000 point club, has put up an eye popping stat line. 27.8 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 3.7 apg, 5.5 spg while shooting 50% from the field and 78% from the free-throw line. She has the Lions at 12-3 and a second place tie in the Flyway conference with a huge game Friday against conference leader Laconia.

[player_tooltip player_id='1134483' first='Gwenn' last='Elliott']-Kohler

The 6-0 Elliott staked her claim immediately this season as, not only a top sophomore, but as one of the better players in all of the state with a 40 point explosion on opening night! The #12 state prospect has cooled off slightly but not much putting up 25.4 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 1.8 apg, 3.8 spg, and 1 bpg while shooting 60% from the floor and 44% from three. The Bombers are sitting at 11-2 second in the Big East behind undefeated Oostburg and will be a dangerous team to face, in the postseason, because of the play of Elliott.

[player_tooltip player_id='992517' first='Zami' last='Gary']-Madison Country Day

Gary burst on the scene with a spectacular freshman season averaging 20.9 points and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 31.6% from 3. Her improvements, that I noticed this summer, have shown up her sophomore season with 24.8 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 4.0 apg, 4.6 spg, and 1.0 bpg while increasing her three-point shooting to 34%. She has helped the Prairie Hawks, winners of just 9 games a year ago, to a 7-4 record (4-2 in conference) and has them in the hunt in the Trailways-South.
