Similar to my last article on 6A D2 playoffs preview (read here), it is important to remember that the Division 1 and Division 2 split isn't about talent — it's strictly enrollment-based. All programs compete under the same 6A banner and often share districts, but once the postseason begins, the larger half of each district advances into the Division I bracket. That means the path is determined by size, not skill. With that in mind, the 6A D1 Road to State is underway, and here's a preview of our Houston-area games to watch in the bi-district round as teams begin their pursuit of a state championship.

Game to Watch #1

Clear Falls (27-7) vs. North Shore (21-11)

📍 Location: Dobie High School
🗓 Date: February 17
🗓 Round: Bi-District

Players to Watch

Clear Falls │ [player_tooltip player_id='1222346' first='Kyndall' last='King'] has quietly put together one of the most productive senior seasons in the area. The under-the-radar standout is averaging nearly a double-double at 22 points and 9 rebounds per game, consistently impacting both ends of the floor. A true two-way player, King scores efficiently, rebounds at a high rate, and defends with toughness. As my PGH colleague Simmie Colson has highlighted in tracking her on-court progression over the years (read here), King's growth and consistency have made her the engine that drives Clear Falls into the postseason.

North Shore │ Senior and UTEP commit [player_tooltip player_id='597323' first='Kobe' last='Johnson'] has been the anchor for North Shore all season. A versatile presence who can play inside-out, she impacts the game in multiple ways — scoring around the rim, stepping out when needed, and relentlessly attacking the glass. Her ability to cause havoc on the boards and hit the midrange gives the Mustangs a physical edge and steady leadership heading into the postseason.

Game to Watch #2

Deer Park (24-11) vs. Summer Creek (28-4)

📍 Location: Weldon “Stoney” Phillips Field House – Pasadena
🗓 Date: February 17
🗓 Round: Bi-District

Summer Creek │Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='510469' first='Kennedy' last='Simpson'] sets the tone for the defending champions. A relentless competitor, she's a terror on the perimeter defensively and consistently pressures opposing guards. Offensively, Simpson attacks the paint with purpose, putting constant stress on the defense and creating opportunities for her teammates.

Inside, 6-foot-4 senior [player_tooltip player_id='842803' first='Amyah' last='Hall'] controls the glass. Her size, length, and physical presence make her a dominant rebounder on both ends of the floor, often limiting second-chance opportunities while creating extra possessions for the Bulldogs. Together, the senior duo gives Summer Creek the defensive edge and interior strength that fuels its championship identity.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='929515' first='Kay'Len' last='Alexander'] brings elite length and athleticism to the perimeter for Deer Park. An extremely long guard who thrives in transition and on the defensive end, she matches the physicality and tempo of her team.

Deer Park │PGH Simmie Colson shared coverage on quite a few Deer Park players after a Thanksgiving tournament (read here), and I was able to catch the squad at the Ft. Bend ISD Christmas tournament. There season has only progressed since these tournaments as they finished 2nd place in their district. [player_tooltip player_id='1067766' first='Shelby' last='Tortorici'] is a senior standout guard. She has tremendous court vision and is a smart decision maker. She elevates on her shot and is a difference maker on the floor for her team.
