Pleasant Valley is a program that knows how to win in the Playoffs and they demonstrated that on Saturday evening on the road at Bettendorf, where they staged their first upset of this Post Season. PV won this contest because they made it a rock fight. Everyone on their team played efficient basketball offensively, shooting right around 45% from the floor while grabbing 11 steals on defense. All in all, as a group they did all the little things really well to win. Someone from this squad, who put on a very impressive performance in this outing was [player_tooltip player_id='609462' first='Isabelle' last='Kremer'], the multiple-sports star. Kremer kept the Bulldogs on a tight leash as she grabbed 18 rebounds total in-between the blocks. Whenever you want to pose an upset, you have to limit the opponent to one shot attempt on most of their offensive trips and Kremer did that for the Spartans to help this team move on for another night of action later this week.

Putman demonstrated her Senior leadership by leading Central DeWitt to another resounding victory this past weekend with her head-y playmaking prowess. Offensively, she shot from all levels, hitting half of her attempts from two, three, and the free throw line. She consistently dished out crafty assists, eventually giving her 8 in total and she pulled down 7 rebounds as well. Putman wasn't the only one who had an eye-opening showing in this game, stacking the total amount of their victory to 45 points. That's not something to be satisfied with but definitely something to recognize as we continue to play this Winter.

If you are examining the Post prospects out of the 2027 Class within Iowa, someone that has slowly gained recognition is [player_tooltip player_id='833967' first='Deidra' last='Doeden'] of Cherokee Washington High School. Doeden first jumped into our radar last season. She was a name we mentioned several times as someone to note because she has natural size and she always happens to show up when her team needs her near the hoop on both offense and defense. She might not be the type to always score high amounts but she still controls the traffic by the rim as it pertains to pace of play and rebounding. On Saturday, Doeden did some work and ended with 15 boards, 3 being on the offensive end. These types of numbers matter in a barn burner, that was only a 1-point game moving into the 4th quarter. When it's that narrow, everything possession matters.

Clinton High School kept their winning streak alive on Saturday evening when they hosted North Scott in an intense battle, eventually coming out of top in the end, 51-49. The River Queens kept this streak alive because of their execution during clutch time in the 4th quarter with time dwindling down, their hard-work, and their dedication. Someone who happened to show up for them time and time again was Aubrey Furgerson out of the Forward position. We mentioned Furgerson last game because of how many times her name was being called down the stretch. This time, she finishes off the contest with a double-double of 17 points (7/14) & 10 rebound, half of which came off of the offensive glass. Both of these numbers led the River Queens for the evening, something you love to see moving into their Regional Championship on Tuesday.

DCG took care of business per usual, eventually beating Webster City by 42 points. Most of the important stuff in this game occurred in the first half when DCG went up 47-12 moving into halftime. From there, it was on autopilot for the Mustangs the rest of the way. You would say this was another group effort with multiple people chipping in but someone who played a very convincing contest was Sophomore - [player_tooltip player_id='891985' first='Ava' last='Smid']. Smid grabbed some D1 attention prior to this Winter because of her mixture of size, skill, and smarts. She is a force that maneuvers all around the floor, being pretty versatile in multiple facets of the game. In this showing she used her size to defend 2-5 and she controlled the tempo on offense within her individual matchup. Which was enough to keep Weber City on lock in the end.
