Indiana wrapped up its high school girls' regional tournament this past weekend, featuring some good games and showcasing some talented players whose performances deserve mention. These teams are all closer to their goal at the start of the season: winning a state title. For some teams, they're looking for their first state championship, some haven't won in some time, and some are looking to add to their recent history.

The race for the 1A division Indiana state tournament continues. The Valentine's Day weekend featured the Frankfort, Greenfield-Central, Shelbyville, and Warsaw community regionals, featuring teams from all classes.

Frankfort regional

Participating in the Frankfort regional, the first game was a matchup between the winners of the “southern wells sectional, the North Miami Warriors, and the winners of the “north vermillion sectional,” Fountain Central Mustangs. The warriors would win that game 40-36. The second matchup featured the winners of their hosted sectional tourney: the McCutheon Mavericks beat the champs of the Carmel sectional, Hamilton Southeastern, 53-36, behind an impressive 20-point performance from [player_tooltip player_id='890800' first='Keara' last='Lipscomb-Allen']. North Miami will go on to the 1A semi-state semifinals, “Huntington north” to play Elkhart Christian Academy. McCutcheon Mavericks will compete in the 4A Laporte semi-state semifinals against the Northridge Raiders.

Averaging 14.8 ppg and nearly 3 steals for the season, the junior guard broke out for 20 points in the regional championship last weekend and led McCutcheon to a trip to semi-state. Keara has earned herself a top 5 ranking for point guards in Indiana and will be on some radars this summer for AAU.

Greenfield-central regional

Heritage Christian, coming out of its hosted sectional tournament, defeated the Union County Patriots, representing the Hagerstown sectional, 71-29, making the Eagles back-to-back regional champs and sending them to the 2A Greencastle semi-state semifinals. Following that game was a clash between Center Grove and Pendleton Heights, who feature two of the top scorers in the state, [player_tooltip player_id='567130' first='Gracyn' last='Gilliard'] and [player_tooltip player_id='750718' first='Adah' last='Hupfer']. Center Grove would continue their undefeated season, winning 50-45. Gilliard put together a 27-point performance, adding 5 steals. [player_tooltip player_id='750718' first='Adah' last='Hupfer'] would end her junior season with a 19-point effort and 7 rebounds. Center Grove looks to continue the unbeaten streak against Evansville Reitz in the Jasper 4A semi-state semifinal.

Leading the 26-0 Center Grove Trojans, #6 ranked in Indiana, [player_tooltip player_id='567130' first='Gracyn' last='Gilliard'] continues to dominate in her senior year, going into semi-state averaging 26.3 on 54% shooting, an 8-point jump from last year. Gracyn is headed to Davidson College this year, having grown significantly in her game over the years, and looks to continue a successful collegiate career.

Shelbyville Regional

In the Shelbyville-hosted regional tournament, we had a matchup between the Weldon sectional champs, the Tri Titans, and the sectional champions, the Greenwood Christian Academy Cougars. Junior guard Kate Reed was a big reason for the Cougars winning as she put up 30 points, but she wasn't alone as sophomore center chipped in 18 points and 13 rebounds, adding 6 steals. Next was the matchup of the Tindley Tigers, winners of the Purdue Polytechnic sectional, versus Trinity Lutheran, who won the Jac-Cen-Del sectional. This game came down to the wire and was a close one throughout, but Tindley would prevail. Winning 46-44, the Tindley Tigers are now set to face the other winners of this regional, Greenwood Christian, in the 1A semi-state semis.

In Kate's most recent game, she put up a season-high 30 points to help Greenwood Christian win their first regional championship in some time and give them a shot at a 1A state title. Kate is also a leader of her volleyball team at Greenwood Christian.

Warsaw community regional

Competing in the Warsaw Community Regional were the West Central Trojans, who won the North White Sectional, and the Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles, coming from the Oregon-Davis Sectional. The Eagles would win by 33, 61-28, making them regional champs again. Elkhart advances to the semi-state to play the previously mentioned North Miami. The final game was between #14 Whitko Wildcats, representing the Woodlan sectional, and the Lakeland sectional finalists, the Eastside Blazers. Whitko would take care of Eastside with a 64-28 win, advancing them to the 2A semi-state semis to play Oak Hill.

guard for #1 team in the 2A division and #14 in Indiana, and leading scorer with 13 ppg for the Whitko Wildcats. Reese led her team to its second straight regional championship victory with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. This win gives Whitko its first shot at a state championship in recent years. The senior guard continues to draw attention with this tournament run.
