2026-2027 Early Outlook on 757 Girls Basketball

The high school season has come to a close, and as travel ball and summer leagues begin to take center stage. A new chapter of evaluation and exposure is underway across the 757 and the state of Virginia.   The offseason always presents a unique opportunity. It's a time for players to get on the radar of scouts and coaches, sharpen their skill sets. While positioning themselves for bigger roles heading into the next high school season.   While the games may have stopped for now, the projection never does.   With key graduations, emerging underclassmen, and shifting roles across several programs, the 2026-2027 season is already beginning to take shape. From rising lead guards stepping into the spotlight. To young talent ready to make an immediate impact, there are plenty of storylines developing across the region.   Here are a few early predictions on some of the talented athletes set to define the next chapter of girls basketball in the 757.   1. [player_tooltip player_id='1376838' first='Jada' last='Durham'] will takeover the Lakeland Offense.    A young guard who already plays with advanced feel. Durham showed throughout the season that she's capable of competing well beyond her years. She brings a combination of quickness, instincts, and composure that gives Lakeland a strong foundation in the backcourt moving forward.   Durham is at her best when attacking downhill. She uses her burst to get into the lane and finish. While also showing the ability to create opportunities for others with solid court vision. She doesn't force the action and plays with a natural pace that allows her to read defenders and make the right play.   Defensively, she stands out with her ball-hawking ability. Durham anticipates well, gets into passing lanes, and creates transition opportunities with her activity. Her effort on that end adds another layer of impact beyond scoring.   With Lakeland set to graduate its two primary backcourt contributors this spring, the keys now shift to Durham. She projects as the next lead guard for the program and will take on a larger role as the primary engine of the offense.    2. [player_tooltip player_id='746290' first='Sydney' last='Youngblood'] will be an impact player for Catholic.    Youngblood made a strong impact in her freshman campaign. Embracing her role effectively off the bench for a Catholic squad that finished as VISAA runner-up. Competing on a roster loaded with talent, she showed maturity and adaptability beyond her years.   A long guard with a defensive mindset, Youngblood carved out minutes early with her ability to disrupt opposing guards. She brings energy on the defensive end. Using her length and instincts to pressure the ball and create problems in passing lanes.   Offensively, she continues to show promising versatility. Youngblood is capable of scoring within the flow and has the ability to facilitate. Skills making her a well-rounded guard who fits seamlessly into Catholic's system.   With key graduations approaching, Youngblood is in line to step into a larger role and potentially the starting lineup. On a roster filled with college-level talent, she has the tools to establish herself as a consistent playmaker and two-way contributor moving forward.    3. Johnson put together an impressive season, earning both Middle School MVP and Nansemond River JV MVP honors in the same year. A rare accomplishment that speaks to her impact and consistency. As an 8th grader, she has already shown a level of maturity and leadership well beyond her years.   An inside-out scoring threat, Johnson is most effective attacking downhill and finishing at the basket, where her strength and physicality stand out. She also has the ability to step out and knock down perimeter shots, adding versatility to her offensive game.   Defensively, Johnson brings a strong presence. She's built to compete on the glass and battle in the paint. While also possessing quick hands that allow her to disrupt ball handlers and jump passing lanes.   With Nansemond River set to graduate five seniors from the varsity roster. Johnson is positioned to make an immediate impact at the next level. Expect her to step into a meaningful role early in her freshman season.    4. Kelsey King establishes herself as one of the best guards in the region.    King is a natural scorer who is only beginning to tap into her full potential. As a rising junior, she already has the ability to fill it up. However, her game extends well beyond just putting points on the board.   She's a true three-level scoring threat. Capable of attacking the basket, knocking down mid-range shots, and stretching the floor from beyond the arc. What separates King is her versatility, she can also take on lead guard responsibilities, running the offense and creating opportunities for her teammates with solid decision-making and vision.   King competes with toughness, showing a willingness to rebound and battle against bigger opponents. That physical edge, combined with her skill set, makes her an impactful presence on both ends of the floor.
