We saw [player_tooltip player_id='1211364' first='Ella' last='Smith'] play a HUGE role in her team's success this past week on the way to a 4A Title. Smith was a problem for opposing teams. Not only because of her production at times but because as a team you have to give her attention near the bucket or else she is going to kill you off of their guard's assists down low. Smith was someone all week that was labeled as a vital role player for the Wildcats as they got close and close to the Championship. In the end, [player_tooltip player_id='502100' first='Macy' last='Comito'] led this group on both sides of the floor but prospects like Smith were crucial. Without their presence on the hardwood, they wouldn't be able to call themselves State Champions at this time but lucky they can. In this Update Smith moves from being unlisted, up to the #85 spot to close out her high school career.

[player_tooltip player_id='1579269' first='Lauren' last='Dvorak'] almost averaged a double-double from her PF position this season with Madrid High School. Dvorak, the 6'0 Forward, scored 9.5 PPG and 10.8 RPG this Winter to help her program to a nearly .500 record overall. This is a hooper that primarily works inside the paint. She knows her role near the bucket and she doesn't move off of that too often. She isn't the type to try to save the day by making a risky play. She would rather work within her frame, use her fundamentals, and dominate with size on the block. This Winter, compared to others, she did show that she was willing to shoot it a little bit from the outside but overall - she worked inside the three point line while going towards the middle of the lane. Dvorak sneaks into the Top 100 at #95 in this Update. This Class is no joke so to be anywhere in the Top 100 means something.

[player_tooltip player_id='1795454' first='Mallie' last='Stoner'] was named 4A All State Tournament Team by the IGHSAU last week because of how well she did for Carlisle throughout. Stoner was a mismatch for every team that they faced. Her size at 5'11/6'0 and her ability to move all over the court confused defenses. That helped the Wildcats run some smooth sets and offenses to get simple buckets both within the half court and in transition. There are a handful of players from the Carlisle team that you could name from this season for putting together a memorable Winter as a whole but I think the moral of the story here is that this was a team effort. Everyone thought they just had to worry about the Wildcat's D1 commit and that was the furthest thing from the truth. Opposing teams sagged off of everyone else and dared them to make plays, which they did and because of that, they get the last laugh in the end.

Every season at the State Tournament we see a handful of prospects hooping that are going to excel at the next level in another sport like Track, Soccer, or Volleyball. This season one of those players was CG - [player_tooltip player_id='1795588' first='Channing' last='Johnson']. Johnson was a lethal 5'11 Guard for the Cyclones all Winter long. Her endurance, soft touch on the ball, length, and athletic ability was superior to most that she came up against. I understand why Johnson will be running track at D2 - Wayne State. She out paces everyone on the hardwood and she is only going to get more athletic as she gets into her physical prime over the next 2-3 years. That's why she kills it in high school athletics and that's why she is going to continue to kill it at the next level after putting together a heck of a high school career.

You could truly call [player_tooltip player_id='782510' first='Maelyn' last='Kluever'] a Combo Guard with how she plays the game. Kluever seems like more of a natural as a PG, making plays from the top of the key on both sides of the ball but she is also a good enough shooter that she can line up deep shots off the catch when someone else is creating for her. Kluever was the definition of an X-factor for Maquoketa this past week on the way to a 3A Title. She changed the momentum of several games with her active defensive prowess and she converted most of her open looks when she got them offensively. Those are two major factors that helped the Cardinals take things over the top to bring home their first GBB State Title in school history.
