This past Sunday, the [program_tooltip program_id='716173' first='Always' last='100'] grassroots program centered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, hosted their annual college showcase. This has been a staple of the program for about the last 7 years or so, where they invite players in from their 17U teams down to 14U teams to participate in drills and open runs/scrimmages in front of many of the Midwest's small colleges. There were no fewer than 30 schools who showed up throughout the day's two sessions, and there were somewhere between 90 and 100 prospects on hand participating. This is the first of several articles highlighting a few of the ladies who stood out this weekend.

Ally hasn't been a big participant in grassroots events over the years, so to see her here and then hear she is scheduled to play with a travel team this Spring and Summer is good news...good news for her, because she will improve so much and boost her recruiting, and good news for whichever college gets her commitment. She is extreeeemly long, she has gotten a little stronger each year, and she runs the floor well North/South. She'll just need to continue adjusting to the physicality of the inside game and become a more instinctual scorer on the block...but you can see she has learned moves.

Alivia seems to always be a fun watch. She is a solid all-around athlete, she plays with natural basketball instincts, and she's just a playmaker, regardless of what "position" she is playing. She is a capable multilevel scorer, probably best using her strength and ball skill to get to the basket, plus she can also run point and find open teammates. Playing at Penn, she has a foundation of structure in her game as well, and I feel like over the past couple of years, she has done a nice job of balancing playing in the open floor of transition and operating in a system in the halfcourt. She's also a solid rebounder as a guard.

Isabelle was extremely active Sunday, and she at times looked like a seasoned veteran around the younger prospects. She has an athletic frame with some length and strength. She has worked to become much more effective creating off the bounce, whether she's getting to the basket or finding open teammates. She looked like she was playing more of a point forward position than anything, which could definitely help her recruiting, as long as she remains efficient and productive doing so. She's an active and aggressive rebounder, plus she can defend multiple positions, including undersized "bigs".

Bellmont was the Class 3A State Champion this year, and not much of the state was aware of "who they are". I have been watching each of them since about middle school, and Lanie is a really nice, scrappy, aggressive, and always-around-the-ball guard. She has nice length at her size, speed & quickness, and she is as effective defending as she is offensively. She loves to pressure the ball, but she's equally good bothering passing lanes. Offensively, she can rip a 3-pointer when on balance and in rhythm, plus she's quick off the dribble and will look to attack immediately after the catch.

I've been watching Ivy since 7th Grade, and she was already around 6-1 at that point in time. She is a strong, physical, broad-shouldered true post who does a nice job of playing "big". She has really nice length in her arms and legs, and she does a great job of catching and keeping the ball high when she possesses it. She will keep it simple, too, and just finish over smaller defenders, but she has some post skill, half hooks, etc., if she ever runs into someone else her size. She has shown some touch to about 15-feet as well. Defensively, she is a presence in the paint, she will pursue rebounds, and she'll alter shots.

I first saw Taylor at a showcase event in the Fall of 2024. She then went on to have a nice 2024-2025 high school season and a strong 2025 grassroots season, including a standout July. She is long, wiry-strong, fluidly athletic, and bouncy. She has also shown improved skill each time I've seen her, transitioning from a mid-post '4' to a perimeter '4', to a true wing, and now this past weekend more of a playmaking point forward. She has always been able to knock down open rhythm jumpers and defend multiple positions, but this was the most comfortable she's looked handling the ball.
