WIAA State Tournament: 4A Championship and 3rd-6th Place Games

Sumner Spartans 62-51</strong></p>   <p>Davis captured the 4A state championship with a strong all-around performance in a 62-51 win over Sumner. The Pirates built a double-digit lead early and maintained control through efficient shooting and balanced scoring. Davis shot over 45 percent from the field and finished with 12 assists as they moved the ball effectively throughout the game. Sumner made a push in the second half behind improved perimeter shooting, but Davis' rebounding edge and interior scoring helped the Pirates secure the title. </p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">3rd/5th Place Game</h2>   <p><strong>Kennedy Catholic Lancers def. Lake Washington Kangaroos 56-51</strong></p>   <p>Kennedy Catholic held off Lake Washington in a competitive 56-51 battle to secure third place. The game featured several lead changes before the Lancers closed strong in the fourth quarter. Kennedy Catholic finished with a 41-26 rebounding advantage and generated consistent scoring at the free throw line, converting 19 attempts. Lake Washington stayed within striking distance behind strong perimeter shooting but could not overcome the rebounding gap down the stretch. </p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">4th/6th Place Game</h2>   <p><strong>Woodinville Falcons def. Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 66-61</strong></p>   <p>Woodinville outlasted Gonzaga Prep in one of the most competitive games of the day, earning a 66-61 victory. The teams traded leads throughout the contest with 16 lead changes and eight ties before the Falcons closed the game with a strong fourth quarter. Woodinville's ability to get to the free throw line proved critical, as the Falcons converted 18 free throws compared to just four for Gonzaga Prep. That late-game efficiency helped Woodinville secure the win.</p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Impact Players from the Round</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Garcia delivered one of the defining performances of the championship game, leading the Pirates with 20 points while also contributing four rebounds and four assists. She consistently created offense throughout the game, knocking down perimeter shots and attacking the defense to get to the free throw line. Her scoring helped Davis maintain offensive rhythm whenever Sumner attempted to cut into the lead. In championship settings, teams often need a guard who can control the moment, and Garcia provided exactly that for the Pirates. Her ability to generate points while facilitating the offense made her one of the most impactful players on the floor.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Borden carried a major offensive load for the Spartans, finishing with 17 points while consistently attacking the defense. She was able to generate scoring both in transition and in half-court situations, helping Sumner stay within striking distance throughout the game. As Davis built its early lead, Borden's ability to respond with timely baskets kept the Spartans from falling too far behind. She also contributed as a playmaker, adding three assists while helping initiate the offense. Her performance was a key reason Sumner remained competitive deep into the fourth quarter.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Fitzgerald delivered a standout performance in the third-place game, finishing with 22 points and controlling the offensive tempo for the Lancers. She repeatedly got to the free throw line and converted 10-of-11 attempts, providing a steady stream of points in a tight contest. When Lake Washington made runs, Fitzgerald's ability to create offense helped Kennedy Catholic maintain its composure. She also contributed across the stat sheet with rebounds and assists, showing her ability to impact the game in multiple ways. That combination of scoring efficiency and leadership played a major role in securing the Lancers' win.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Benthin led the Kangaroos with 16 points and eight rebounds while playing a major role on both ends of the floor. She consistently attacked the defense and found scoring opportunities both inside and from the perimeter. Her rebounding presence helped Lake Washington stay competitive despite Kennedy Catholic's advantage on the glass. Benthin also added three assists while helping facilitate the offense during key stretches of the game. Her all-around effort was instrumental in keeping the Kangaroos within reach throughout the contest.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Bieler played a major role in Woodinville's victory, leading the Falcons with 21 points and providing a steady scoring presence throughout the game. She knocked down four three-pointers, stretching the defense and creating spacing for the Woodinville offense. In a game that featured constant lead changes, Bieler's perimeter shooting helped the Falcons regain momentum at several key moments. Her scoring also forced Gonzaga Prep to adjust defensively, opening opportunities for teammates. That ability to impact the game both as a scorer and floor spacer proved critical in Woodinville's win.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Cornwall delivered one of the most impressive individual performances of the day, finishing with 26 points and 10 rebounds. She consistently attacked the basket and converted efficiently from the field while also contributing on the boards. Her scoring kept Gonzaga Prep in the game during several stretches where Woodinville threatened to pull away. Cornwall also added defensive plays and helped generate extra possessions for the Bullpups.
