Three days, twelve games, and four champions. A basketball junkie like me couldn't miss a single game. For the third straight year, I had a blast providing live Prep Girls Hoops coverage at the Breslin Center during the MHSAA State Semifinals and Finals from opening tip to final buzzer. Many players impacted the games, but these were the D2 prospects who separated themselves the most on the biggest stage.

Kayla played her best on the brightest stage. In the semifinals, she was dialed in from beyond the arc, draining three triples for the Martians. She penetrated off the dribble and made a great wrap-around pass inside for an assist. Kayla side-stepped a defender to score a crafty layup and chased down a ball-handler from behind to cause a turnover. She led the team with 17 points and added four rebounds. In the State Finals, Kayla paced the Martians' offensive attack once again. Her precision from the perimeter continued as Kayla ripped the nets with a game-high four three pointers. She blew by the defender with a dribble burst after a hesi, then finished with a smooth inside hand layup. Kayla scored a strong drive-by and-one bucket, then tacked on the free throw. She created space with a spin, changed hands in the lane, and accelerated downhill for another layup. Kayla led Goodrich to a State Finals victory with 21 points and three assists. She is the D2 All-Breslin Team MVP.

Baylor's been contributing for Goodrich in every statistical category all year, and her two games at the Breslin Center were no different. In the semifinals against South Christian, she turned in a complete game with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals to help Goodrich advance. She patiently surveyed the scene, drove by, got the angle, and finished off two. Baylor posted up a defender with her back to the basket and scored after using a drop step. She worked inside to score an offensive rebound put back, knocked down free throws, and dished out assists after penetrating off the dribble. In the State Championship Game, Baylor was a defensive stopper, posting 14 points, five rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Her backcourt pressure and anticipation hassled opposing guards, producing turnovers. She buried a corner three, dropped in a floater off two feet, and scored through contact for a tough and-one, then completed the three-point play at the line. Baylor's complete performance in both games was crucial to securing the state title.

Sophia was the most impactful player on the court for South Christian in the D2 State Semifinals. She drove into the chest of a defender, created separation, and knocked down a tough elbow jumper. Sophia caused the defense to overhelp after penetrating with her dribble and dished out two kickout passes to wide-open teammates in the corner for assists. She sprinted ahead in transition and scored full-speed layups. Sophia used great technique to deflect a pass with her outside hand for a steal. She led South Christian in scoring with 13 points and added three assists.

Kendyl delivered one of her best moments during what proved to be her final game at the high school level. On the big stage, she led a spirited effort by Powers Catholic in the D2 State Semifinals. Kendyl led all scorers with 32 points, sinking five three-pointers and going 5 of 5 from the free throw line. She dished out six assists and secured five rebounds. Kendyl put her defender in jail with a hostage dribble, then knocked down a pull-up jumper from the foul line. She kicked the ball out to the corner on a drive for an assist and buried a logo three off the catch. Kendyl drove to the rim for a strong and-one, plus the free throw, and drained another logo three off the dribble. She absorbed contact to score with her left at the rim, went coast-to-coast after grabbing a defensive rebound, and used her classic pocket dribble hesi combo move to drive by for a layup. Kendyl converted an off-platform floater after using a spin move and knocked down three more deep threes from the wing/slot.

Addi was expected to be a major factor again at the Breslin Center, and she turned in two fantastic games for Tecumseh. She put on a rebounding clinic and back-to-back double-doubles for the Indians. Addi posted 16 points and 19 rebounds in the semifinals, then followed with 10 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks in the State Championship Game. Her footwork on the block and as a driver out of the high post was impressive. Addi caught a pass in the high post, faced up, ripped, drove, spun, then finished with her left. She crashed the boards hard to score many putbacks and knocked down free throws efficiently after defenders put her on the line. Addi showed her strength, backing down her defender, then finishing with a layup off two feet. She rotated well from the help position to block shots and was great for Tecumseh on the biggest stage for the second straight year.

Avery delivered two outstanding games for Tecumseh in her first appearance at the Breslin Center. She led the Indians with 25 points, converting 5 of 6 shots from the free throw line, then followed with 19 points in the State Finals, sinking three triples. Avery jumped a pass to score a full-court layup, scored an and-one off a backdoor cut, and split the gap for a drive-by layup. She glided through the paint on a smooth drive past her defender, beat the help side rotation, and finished with her left off two feet. Avery attacked off the dribble confidently and aggressively to score many layups in traffic, knocked down mid-range jumpers, and buried key threes efficiently from beyond the arc. She stepped up and became the go-to scorer for Tecumseh in the biggest moments against great teams, solidifying herself as a top prospect in the class.
