Friday April 3rd I attended the Prep Hoops Girls Final-4 Faceoff tournament.

I watched 10 different teams play and here were my

17U Guard Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='754856' first='Jayla' last='Freeman'] Higley (Desert Dream Supreme 17) (Pictured left)

A real PG who has one of the tightest handles in the class and maybe the AIA. She is also one of the fastest from end to end and will take it coast to coast with her left hand. She often sucks in the defense and will kick it straight into a teammates shooting pocket. She will score with offensive rebound put backs and has a smooth looking three.

[player_tooltip player_id='921161' first='Tylaiah' last='Wily'] Gilbert (Desert Dream Supreme 17) (Pictured right)

A scoring point guard with next level court vision. She will score with mid-range pull-ups, crossovers into a jumper, downhill takes and knows how to change speed and will drop her shoulder and go to work. Her post footwork and aggressive play really stood out for a guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='979540' first='Teriise' last='Lancaster'] Sandra Day O'Connor ([program_tooltip program_id='716029' first='Locked' last='In Elite'] 17)

A scoring point guard will drive and kick or throw passes up the court. She will score with changing speeds well to get to the basket and can score with bursts of speed and threes. She will break the press and uses her quickness to collect steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='749674' first='Braya' last='Neal-Tiffany'] Valley Vista (Desert Dream Supreme 17)

A scoring point guard uses a quick burst to the basket and she smartly uses the pick and roll game to her advantage and passes up the court perfectly and will also thread the needle. She has good body control in the air to score in transition or gets to the free throw line.

[player_tooltip player_id='807119' first='Terrais-Joi' last='Coleman'] Basha (VBC 17 S40)

A long and taller guard is a fluid mover. She has next level quickness and length, which makes her game go. She will rebound and sees the court well but she really defends using all her athletic gifts with her size, twitch and length. When she is hitting her perimeter jumpers, she makes it nearly impossible to defend her.

[player_tooltip player_id='1257004' first='Evelyn' last='Hoover'] Mesa Mountain View (The Foundation 17)

A highly skilled lead guard can play on or off the ball seamlessly. She makes smart reads but she is looking to score it. She has a pretty looking three point stroke that she will rattle in one by one when she gets hot with range and quicker trigger.

[player_tooltip player_id='1814057' first='Isabella' last='Franco'] AZ College Prep (Peak-Hollerbach 17)

A cerebral scoring point guard may be undersized but the lefty can shoot the three and she will hesitate to get a step on her defender to get to the basket. She takes care of the ball and communicates with her teammates and the coach. She thinks like a coach on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='836788' first='Skylie' last='Gonzales'] Mesquite ([program_tooltip program_id='713967' first='Team' last='Arizona Basketball'] 17)

A scoring point guard is very fast in the open court to get a step on her defender to the basket. She smartly will cut off the ball for buckets and earns trips to the free throw line. When she is also firing away from deep, she is a tougher cover.

[player_tooltip player_id='780444' first='MacKenzie' last='Lewis'] Campo Verde (VBC 17 S40)

A scoring point can pass it up the court and score it from all levels. She is great on the break and will score with off the dribble threes and get on the glass with offensive rebound put backs. She is a very aggressive rebounder for her size and position and she is a good passer.
