GBCA Live: 2030 Freshmen to Know

One of the top freshmen in the state, Payton led Grayson throughout the week with her scoring and playmaking. On the smaller side, Day has no issues being effective. She's heady with the ball, understanding how to attack defenses. Payton has a nice in-between game and is shifty with the ball when it comes to weaving her way all the way to the basket. She passes well off the dribble. Defensively, she makes opponents pay who are loose with the ball. Day will have D-I schools on her from Day 1.     Minutes will be tough to come by in Year 1, but Kyla Givens has skills that bode well long-term. The freshman is long on the perimeter. Her length and agility give her upside as a 3&D contributor. She came off the bench against White County to bury a pair of threes. As she gets stronger and carves out minutes in the rotation, Givens' stock will trend up. Kyla Givens is a name to remember.     Pittmon continues to trend upward and was one of the most productive freshmen at GBCA Live, averaging 12.5 points per game while impacting every statistical category. The physical forward scores in a variety of ways, bullying her way to the rim, finishing through contact and consistently getting to the foul line. Pittmon rebounds her position, makes smart drive-and-kick reads and has the instincts to create turnovers defensively. Her confidence and skill level have taken a major leap over the past year, and she's already proving to be a Day 1 varsity difference-maker.     West plays with an active motor and finds ways to impact winning. The athletic freshman rebounds well for her size, thrives in the open floor and creates extra possessions with her defensive activity. In a strong outing against Jackson County, she posted 14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block while knocking down a pair of transition threes. West's versatility and toughness should make her a key contributor throughout her high school career.     Avila looks every bit the part of Georgia's top freshman. The smooth-shooting wing erupted for 25 points against St. Francis, burying five three-pointers while showcasing elite efficiency and shot-making. Rarely wasting opportunities, Avila is always ready to fire and has a quick, confident release. With major offers already rolling in, her combination of size, shooting and scoring instincts makes her one of the state's premier young prospects.     Sams is a long, wiry playmaker with intriguing two-way upside. The lefty excels attacking downhill, creating for teammates and using her length to finish around the basket. She covers ground defensively, has a knack for filling up the stat sheet and projects as a disruptive perimeter defender as she continues to develop. Sams possesses the tools and motor to become a high-impact guard at both ends.     Lee immediately stands out with her size, strength and defensive versatility. The freshman moves her feet well enough to switch onto guards and uses her length to disrupt passing lanes and pressure ball handlers. While her offensive game is still developing, the defensive foundation is already evident. Lee's physical tools and mobility make her an intriguing long-term prospect with plenty of upside.
