New York 2027 Ranked Players from Section 2: Top 40

The updated Prep Girls Hoops Rankings for New York 2027 prospects came out recently, and this is the biggest group from Section 2 yet. So many players from the region are in the rankings this time that I had to divide them into multiple segments. This is a crucial year for the rising juniors as they head into their senior year and prepare to make their college decision. Here is a look at where your favorite 2027 players from the section stack up against the state's best after a comprehensive analysis by our staff.    [player_tooltip player_id='1862660' first='Jayla' last='Geter'] is the highest-ranked Section 2 player currently in the Class of 2027. Geter was a standout on a deep and talented Shaker team during the winter. Geter was the floor general for the Blue Bison this season. She is the prototypical point guard, dissecting defences with her ball-handling and passing skills, and making the players around her better. She is especially impressive in transition, where her speed allows her to run away from opponents for easy points. Geter's foot quickness and lateral movement help her excel defensively. She is a very good shooter, especially from behind the arc, where she connected on 38 3-pointers during the season.     [player_tooltip player_id='1276537' first='Malia' last='Jackson'] is the No. 18-ranked 2027 prospect in New York. Her size and strength, coupled with her impressive skill set, have made her highly coveted by college recruiters. Jackson is a powerful player who is a handful to defend in the post. She is a double-double machine with her smooth shooting touch and relentless work on the glass. Jackson averaged 16.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game for Shaker this season. Jackson is a nearly automatic finisher around the basket. She has a loaded arsenal of skills in the post, but can step out to knock down the mid-range jumper as well. Jackson is also an outstanding defender in the paint.     [player_tooltip player_id='1004381' first='Giada' last='Lanni'] is the 21st-ranked player in the group, but like her sister, recently announced she will transfer to a powerful prep program, Hoosac School, and reclassify to 2028. Giada's game is very similar to Sofia's. She is a three-level scorer with an outstanding shooting touch from downtown, the mid-range, or around the hoop. She beats defenders off the dribble with both her right and left hands. Giada runs the floor well to finish in transition and has the strength to muscle through contact. She has tremendous court vision and a strong understanding of the game. Giada is strong on the offensive boards, where she picks up points off putbacks. She is also a factor on the defensive end.     [player_tooltip player_id='1154051' first='Sofia' last='Lanni'] is ranked No. 27 in the Class of 2027, and we still decided to include her in this grouping, despite the recent announcement that she and her sister Giada will transfer to the Hoosac School and reclassify to the Class of 2028. Sofia is a multi-faceted player with a deep skill set. She is very good at getting to the basket off the dribble and can finish with either hand. When the defense is drawn to her, Sofia uses her high basketball IQ and keen court awareness to make all the correct decisions. She is a superb passer. Sofia runs the floor well to score in transition. She is a stellar rebounder and defender. She can connect on jumpers off the catch or the dribble, from the mid-range, beyond the arc.     [player_tooltip player_id='862022' first='Ella' last='Trimarchi'] is currently ranked No. 35 in our Class of 2027 rankings. Trimarchi is known for her high basketball IQ. She moves well without the ball and always seems to make the right play for her team. Trimarchi uses a strong first step to slice through the defence and get to the cup. She is also a very good shooter from beyond the arc and in the midrange. Trimarchi has a very high motor and plays with 100 percent effort at all times. She is tough on the offensive boards, giving herself another way to score. Trimarchi helps her team win in ways that don't always show up in the stat sheet. She is a solid defender and rebounder.     [player_tooltip player_id='868365' first='Maggie' last='Volmer'] is the No. 36-ranked 2027 player in the current rankings. I have seen her play more times than any player in this group, and she never disappoints. Volmer has the size and skills to dominate an entire game in the paint, and typically does. Volmer possesses excellent post-up skills and has very good footwork. She scores on multiple putbacks off offensive rebounds, and she is a tireless worker on the boards. Volmer has a soft shooting touch around the hoop and can step out to the mid-range. On the defensive end, she is a solid post defender and protects the basket with her shot-blocking ability.
