Class 2A Region 1 and 2 Offseason Radar Watch

The Class of 2A has been home to some of the best players in TN. Going into the 2026-22027 season, that remains true. Here are five players in Region 2-1A and Region 2-2A to look out for in the upcoming school season.    It will be exciting to see what [player_tooltip player_id='1133788' first='Joie' last='Shipley'] looks like as a defender in her senior season. Because in her junior year with West Green High School, she proved to be one of the best interior defenders in her region.   Shipley game in and out sent opponents' shot attempts flying away from her team's basket. In multiple games in the 2025-2026 season, she had four or more blocks. This includes a game against Thomas Walker High School where she had eight blocks.   Shipley's great shot blocking comes from her size and composure. She does a good job of stepping up and cutting off guards' drives. She often beats them to the spot they are attacking and stops in time to block their shot and not let her momentum take her forward to cause a foul.   Shipley offensively is at her best in the paint. She is extremely efficient in scoring on the left side of the paint. She also is able to attack from the arc on a dribble drive as a center.     [player_tooltip player_id='1452232' first='Kelly' last='Hatfield'] proved to be a good wing defender and perimeter shooter in her junior season.   Hatfield, as a shooter, is mainly a catch-and-shoot threat. She does a good job of creating open looks for herself by off-ball movement as well as just having patience and waiting for an overcommitment from an opposing defender. Last season, she had multiple games where her perimeter shot was impactful. This includes a game against Washburn High School where she had four made 3-pointers.   Hatfield, defensively, is a SG who has great IQ. She is at a high level in reading passes and also reading an opponent when they are on the dribble. With that, she can get an influx of steals by both timing up a steal on a player dribbling and a player making a pass. In a game against Eagleton College and Career Academy last season, she had a total of eight steals using both skills.     [player_tooltip player_id='1555955' first='Ashlyn' last='Finch'] is one of the top underclassmen in the Region 2-1A to look out for.   Finch can play as the primary ball handler as well as just a perimeter player and excel at either role she is in. Acting as a PG, she creates good separation with crossovers and maneuvers around screens set for her well. She can drive and score efficiently with the speed she has on the dribble, and she is also great at shooting dribble pullups beyond the perimeter.   Finch on the wing is a great cutter. With the speed she shows on the dribble, she gains an extra burst off of it. This allows her to get open on cuts often. Finch is also a great perimeter defender who can generate turnovers rapidly. In a game against Cumberland Gap High School last season, she had seven steals.     Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1836247' first='Delilah' last='Reed'] shows maximum effort on the defensive end.   Reed with the focus and pride she takes on defense is a big steal threat. That leads to another gateway of one of her strengths;attacking downhill.   Reed on the drive can score on botgh sides of the basket and through contact. In a game last season against Riceville school she scored an and one left hand layup on one of the opposing team's big.   Reed in that game also notably had four steals and four rebounds.     [player_tooltip player_id='821709' first='Lilly' last='Woodruff'] in her junior season was a double-double machine.   Woodruff was constantly dominating the glass and finding ways to score in the interior last school season. One of the more impressive things about Woodruff constantly getting 20+ points and 10+ rebounds games was her ability to keep getting deep post position. Teams just could not figure out a way to stop Woodruff, from the start of the season to the end.   Woodruff, who is an elite interior player, also has other impressive skills in her game. She has good dribble skills taht allows her to initiate offensive sets on occasion. She also has a good midrange jumper that she can hit in high post actions, as well as just pulling up for it on the dribble.
