Mitten Summer Showdown: Downhill Attackers

The LBI Mitten Summer Showdown featured several players who consistently put pressure on opposing defenses by attacking downhill. At The Cage and Grand Blanc High School, these players showed the ability to beat defenders off the dribble, get into the lane, finish through contact, and create opportunities for themselves and their teammates. Their quickness, confidence, and ability to make plays in traffic made them some of the toughest matchups throughout the one-day event. Here are some of the standout downhill attackers from the Mitten Summer Showdown.    Wren, a guard for [program_tooltip program_id='1226083' first='West' last='Michigan Drive'], was one of the most effective downhill attackers at the Mitten Summer Showdown. She used an explosive first step along with a smooth shimmy move to create separation and blow by defenders, consistently getting into the paint and putting pressure on the defense. Wren also kept defenders from sagging off by knocking down shots from beyond the arc and the mid-range, making her a true three-level scoring threat. Her ability to change speeds, attack off the dribble, and score from multiple areas of the floor made her a difficult matchup throughout the day.       Dallas, a guard for Michigan Crossover, brought relentless energy every time she stepped on the floor at the Mitten Summer Showdown. Her quick first step and shifty handle allowed her to beat defenders off the dribble and consistently get downhill, where she finished through contact for an impressive three-point play. She also made her presence felt defensively, using active hands to force a steal before taking it coast-to-coast and pulling up for a smooth jumper in transition. Dallas didn't just create for herself—she also delivered several quality passes on the break to set up teammates for easy baskets. Her speed, toughness, and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor made her one of the more exciting guards to watch throughout the event.     Olivia, a guard for The Mystics-Josh, consistently put pressure on opposing defenses with her ability to get downhill at the Mitten Summer Showdown. She attacked the paint with confidence, forcing help defenders to commit before making the right read. If the defense collapsed, Olivia delivered accurate kick-out passes to open shooters, and when the lane stayed open, she had no hesitation finishing the play herself. She also showed a smooth mid-range jumper, giving her another reliable scoring option when defenders tried to take away the drive. Her decision-making, poise, and ability to create offense for both herself and her teammates made her one of the standout guards at the event.     Addy, a guard for [program_tooltip program_id='1239258' first='HB' last='Elite'], consistently put pressure on opposing defenses with her aggressive downhill attacks at the Mitten Summer Showdown. She drove to the basket with confidence and strength, forcing defenders into fouls as she relentlessly attacked the paint, earning frequent trips to the free throw line. Addy also kept defenders honest by knocking down shots from beyond the arc, making her a difficult player to defend at all three levels. On the defensive end, she was just as impactful, using quick hands to pick the pockets of opposing ball handlers and turn those steals into transition opportunities. Defensively, she was active and disruptive, coming away with several steals that helped ignite her team's transition game.
