The evaluation and rankings process was expedited this spring and summer due to the volume of Prep Girls Hoops tournaments in Michigan and mass participation by clubs and teams on our Prep Girls Hoops Circuit. The Prep Girls Hoops College Tour series and Prep Girls Hoops Michigan State Tournament gave us five chances to see prospects compete locally right here in Michigan. Nearly every club with college prospects in Michigan competed in front of our scouts at one Prep Girls Hoops tournament, and many clubs attended more than one. This reality created the perfect environment for us to evaluate prospects from across the state against various levels of competition.

After actively evaluating prospects during the first travel session, we now have 326 players ranked. Height, size, speed, athleticism, fundamental skill development, the position a player is projected to play at the next level, and performance in different competitive settings are all taken into account. Our goal with every class is to accurately group prospects into the correct categories of college potential/projection. By the end of senior year, each class breaks down into clear categories: Power Four/D1+, D1/D2+, D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+, NAIA/D3/JUCO, and NAIA/D3 reserve. As I've written many times, the levels of college basketball intersect, cross, and differ in competitive ability throughout all the divisions. All high school classes do not have the same size, talent, or level of college talent. However, based on my tracking of commitments over the past three years, there appears to be a predictable trend in Michigan.

Based on data from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes, there could be approximately 410 or more prospects per grade who can play some level of college basketball. There will always be multisport athletes who don't do travel basketball or play in some remote area where we just don't get the opportunity to identify them for our rankings, despite our best efforts. Using averages from the past three classes, there may be anywhere from 10-20 D1 commits, 20-30 D2 commits, and 125-140 NAIA/D3/JUCO commits in a particular class.

UPCOMING PGH EVENTS (Use "EvanBell10" code for discount)

The Freshman Showcase (2030s), August 22nd

Registration Link

The Expo (2027-2029s), September 26th

Registration Link

Maya boosted her ranking by performing at a high level against good competition on the PGH Circuit and at BCAM Reaching Higher. Seeing her length, skill, athleticism, muscular build, and versatility at multiple events left no doubt that she was a top 40 prospect. Maya was a Top Performer on the PGH College Tour at multiple tournaments and delivered an impressive showing for Holt at BCAM. She has get by you speed off the dribble, is strong enough to score through contact, and has a good finishing touch around the basket in traffic. Maya contributes as a rebounder, knocks down shots from the perimeter, finishes well off two feet, and is capable of playing a guard, wing, or forward. She will continue her career at Wayne State following graduation.

Payton was a stock riser during her junior season at GRCC, and that continued during the travel season for Dream Loudly. Payton demonstrated more to her game than spotting up beyond the arc to provide a perimeter scoring threat. Her physicality, resolve, footwork, strong finishing, and touch around the basket specifically stood out as a junior and on the travel circuit. Payton defended posts well in the paint, held her ground, and showed she can handle the demands of playing a versatile inside/outside forward role, turning in multiple Top Performer showings on the PGH Circuit. Payton's face-up downhill drives, size, and proficiency from three off the hop left a great impression on PGH Scout Jeremy Brooks at the Nike Championships. She'll be continuing her career at Grand Valley State following graduation.

Calista moved into the top ten and solidified herself as Michigan's top small forward in the class, capable of playing 3, 4, and 5 at the higher levels of college ball. It looks like Calista will be getting a ton of ball touches as a guard this season at Stoney Creek, which will also polish her perimeter game. Calista has progressed every year and is beginning to move closer to her high potential. Physically and fundamentally, she offers rare skill and athletic abilities that you don't see at her height. With excellent touch and footwork in traffic, she can slash downhill, side-step defenders in the lane, and score or power through the contact off two feet. Calista swarms offensive players with her length. She swats shots away inside, closes passing lanes, covers ground well laterally to stop drives, and cleans up the glass on both ends. A Top Performer on the PGH Circuit, strong showings at BCAM Reaching Higher and Oakland Team Camp, and then add in more recognition from PGH scout BJ Batson at Select Events, Calista has been on a tear the past few months. She has offers from Grand Valley State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, and Oakland.

Caroline separated herself late in December during a game with Farmington Hills Mercy, and she doubled down on that effort with an encore performance at BCAM Reaching Higher. Against tough competition, Caroline rose to the occasion and demonstrated the versatile skills, athleticism, length, perimeter accuracy, capability to attack off the dribble, finesse, scoring touch around the basket, motor, defensive presence, and body control that will translate to the college game as a guard and a wing. She'll be a welcome addition to a college program and holds offers from Albion, Alma, Adrian, and Calvin.

Katelyn turned in some impressive performances for Mystics S40 during the AAU season, with multiple Top Performer showings on the College Tour, including an All-Tournament First Team outing at Wayne State. She added a notable performance at The Bump and was one of the best prospects in the gym at Northwood Team Camp. Her length, athleticism, versatility to defend and score in the post, stretch the floor as a three-point threat, aggressive rebounding presence, ability to attack downhill with an explosive burst, and finish acrobatic layups with either hand in traffic are what set her apart on the court. She hasn't hit her ceiling yet and is a capable forward at the next level who can also play the wing. Katelyn picked up her first D2 offer from Davenport and holds offers from Alma, Albion, and Hope. She'll be a great addition to a college program.
