Class of 2029: Five Players Setting the Standard

It's official. The new school year has begun, and last year's rising freshmen are now entering their sophomore seasons.   Many have already established themselves among the best players in the area. Others are earning recognition across Virginia and beyond.   One thing is becoming increasingly clear. The Class of 2029 in Hampton Roads is special.   This class has talent at every position. Players are commanding attention, collecting offers, and becoming leaders for their teams.   Additionally, many are still just beginning to show what they can become. Their development over the next three seasons will be exciting to watch.   I haven't had the opportunity to evaluate every talented player in the class. However, I've been fortunate to see many of them compete multiple times.   Therefore, this list is based on what I've personally evaluated on the court.   With that being said, here are my Top Five Class of 2029 girls basketball players I have encountered in my travels.    [player_tooltip player_id='741652' first='Brianna' last='Norman'] A lightning quick guard Norman had the responsibility of running an offense with college bound players on the floor with her. Norman thrived with keeping everybody involved with the office as well as scoring when needed to help her team. A downhill scorer with a quick first step Norman is deceptively strong in traffic and has no issues finishing through contact.   Defensively, she is technically solid and impossible to take off the ball using court vision, footwork, and angles to force the ball handler where she wants them to be. Norman projects as a force over the next three years in school.       [player_tooltip player_id='954876' first='Jordan' last='Corbin'] Corbin is a solid blend of force and finesse on the block already having a few 40 point games under her belt Corbin knows how to put the ball in the basket plain and simple. Capable of playing the one through five on offense and defending positions one through five on defense Corbin brings a high IQ and serves as a coach on the floor for her young team. Adept at blocking shots and using timing and positioning to battle for rebounds, Corbin possesses a very high ceiling as she continues to develop these next three years,     A'dia Cash ranked near the top of Virginia in assists per game as a freshman point guard. That production alone deserves attention, but focusing only on her passing undersells her complete game.   Offensively, Cash can score from all three levels while consistently creating opportunities for teammates. Additionally, she controls tempo and effectively facilitates in transition or the half court. However, defenses cannot become comfortable playing her solely as a distributor. Cash can quickly shift gears and take over offensively when scoring opportunities appear.   Defensively, Cash is disruptive on the perimeter and consistently attacks passing lanes. She uses timing and anticipation to create deflections and turn defense into offense.   Moreover, Cash brings the leadership mentality expected from a point guard. As a coach's daughter, she displays an advanced understanding of the game. Ultimately, the offense flows through her because she can create for others or confidently create for herself.     Youngblood earned meaningful minutes as a freshman on a talented Catholic roster featuring several established players. However, her value goes well beyond simply contributing to a deep team.   Defensively, Youngblood has the length, quickness, and athleticism to become a matchup problem. She can defend guards and wings while using her length to disrupt passing lanes. Additionally, her speed allows her to pressure the ball and recover when beaten.   Offensively, Youngblood is capable of scoring at all three levels. She can also facilitate, run the offense, and make plays within a fast-paced system.   Most importantly, Youngblood has already shown she can impact games without needing to dominate the basketball. With an expanded role ahead, her production should continue matching her versatility.   That combination makes Youngblood one of the most complete players in Hampton Roads' 2029 class.     [player_tooltip player_id='1900051' first='Run' last='Svensbjorndottir'] established herself in the region while contributing to the state champion Princess Anne Cavaliers. With key graduations, look for Svensbjorndottir to take greater control of the offense this season.   A true point guard, Svensbjorndottir is comfortable directing the offense in both the half court and full court. Additionally, she can facilitate effectively in transition and consistently creates opportunities for teammates. She possesses deep shooting range while also having the ability to attack the basket. As a result, she demands attention whenever the ball is in her hands.   Defensively, Svensbjorndottir brings similar versatility and awareness. She can lead a press, execute traps, or defend effectively in the half court. Moreover, she uses positioning and anticipation to force opposing ball handlers into uncomfortable situations.   This Icelandic Guard brings a European Style and polish to the floor which makes her an intriguing prospect.    The Class of 2029 is already making its mark, and these five are only beginning to show what they can become.
