First Impressions: Five Fall Additions To The System

Throughout the calendar year we are always adding prospects to each Class as they pop up on our radar. In this article we highlight a few players that have recently just been added to our system as we move into the Fall. Each of these prospects has put together team-leading numbers during their high school career's so far and they are looking to slow down anytime soon.   Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!    Looking over the numbers for Corinne Anderson and one thing is blatantly obvious - Anderson is a tough individual to stop under the bucket or near the painted area. We saw this on display again and again this AAU season but she really stood out to everyone watching last Winter when she led her Heartland Christian team in PPG and RPG. Honestly, Anderson put together one of the more impressive stat lines throughout the state during the Winter with 13 PPG and 16 RPG, averaging a double-double while playing in their 21 game season. She also got to the foul line a TON, almost 50 times throughout, demonstrating that she is willing to get physical whenever it's needed to assert her dominance on the court. If she can return this Winter and build off of the AAU season she just put together with Western Iowa Express 16U, than she is going to average even better numbers this upcoming season if everyone keeps it simple and they play things out correctly.     Riley Meyer was the offensive heartbeat last Winter for Okoboji High School as she averaged over 14 PPG and right around 5 RPG. Defensively, she led her team in SPG and total Steals on the season, always showing up in the score book on both sides of the floor. They had some Freshman in place last Winter but now that they will be returning and they should have their footing underneath them, they should be able to take a step forward, being led by Meyer at the front of the pack. Whenever Meyer is attacking on offense she is someone that can hurt you from each offensive level so it's really a pick your poison situation for the defense. Looking at all of the factors at play here and I'm sure we will see Meyer's lighting up the stat sheet throughout the next eight months.     This Winter will be the passing of the touch within the Nodaway Valley WBB program out in Greenfield, Iowa. Nodaway Valley has been a competitor the last four years because of their main producer, Izzy Eisbach, but this year is different. They have a new coaching staff, an entirely new starting lineup, and new moments of opportunity for anyone willing to make the most of their opportunities. Someone that should take the reins and put the program on their back is Abigail Nelson. Nelson stepped on the Varsity floor last season and did everything in her power to help the cause as a SF/CG. She moves well, more like a Guard but because of her height she is put by the basket in most cases because she is usually one of the tallest on the floor, helping her rebound at a high rate and helping her get ample shot opportunities on offense in between the blocks. We will check back in with Nelson right before the regular season tips off. She has some promise in this game. She just needs to stay consistent now. No matter who is put in her way.     There has been glimpses of some solid play out of Gabrielle Hundling of Ar-We-Va High School over the last few years and she is ready to show off during her Senior year that she has been working meticulously during her off-season. Hundling was one of her team's source of production last Winter. She moved around the SG/PG/CG spot and made things work whenever she was situated. She averaged just over 6 PPG, she led her team in RPG with 4.5, and she even found time to dish out an Assist Per Game each night. GH is going to return as the Senior leader this Winter for the Rockets and I'm sure she is going to be locked in, ready to ride once the season finally gets here in a few short months.     Keely Derochie has been an underrated hero for Hinton the last couple of seasons, being primarily overshadowed by their Upperclassman but now it's going to be time time shine. Derochie averaged the most RPG on the team last Winter with 6. That number is impressive when you consider standing next to her is someone that will be competing with the Creighton Bluejays in Volleyball for the next four years in Bailey Boeve and she is out-rebounding her. This Winter we should see Derochie back in the same spot in the middle, handling rebounding duties, as well as being a go-to player near the paint on offense. They should be bringing in a few more killers from their 2030 Class and with the new 8th grade rule, who knows who we might see the next eight months on Varsity but no matter any of that - Derochie is going to be a constant in their formula somewhere.
