Florida Freshman Showcase Preview: Tone-setters in the Building

The Freshman Showcase will feature several young players with the ability to set the tone from the opening tip. Some bring energy and hustle, while others make their mark with defense, scoring, or creating opportunities for their teammates. Their skills may differ, but they all share the ability to impact the game in positive ways. In this article, we highlight some of the tone-setters who could help make this an exciting Freshman Showcase. James can provide instant offense with her ability to shoot the three, attack the basket, and finish going either left or right. She is savvy with the basketball and has a knack for finding ways to put the ball in the basket. James plays with confidence, gets herself open, takes good shots, and consistently puts pressure on the defense. She also brings leadership to the floor and has the ability to energize those around her. James is a proven scorer and playmaker who should be one of the players setting the tone at the upcoming Freshman Showcase.     [player_tooltip player_id='1136120' first='Justice' last='Alderman'] brings instant energy to the floor and attacks gaps that are difficult to cover. She can get to the rim going left or right, and her explosiveness keeps constant pressure on the defense. Alderman is always on the attack, and she can counter that with a very good three point shot. When she shoots with confidence, she is one of the top shooters in this class.   Defensively, Alderman competes with the same intensity. She applies pressure on the ball, creates steals, and can turn a defensive play into transition offense as well as anyone. Her quickness allows her to go from defense to offense in an instant and score quickly. Alderman stood out at the most recent showcase with her intensity, athleticism, and explosiveness. Those skills separate her from most, and those skills will be on display this upcoming weekend. Alderman is poised to set the tone on both ends of the court. Young brings plenty of passion to the floor, along with the versatility to impact the game in several ways. Young has very good size and length, which she uses effectively on both ends of the court. She can score on the block, but at this stage, she appears most comfortable facing the basket and using her skill set to make plays. Defensively, Young's versatility also stands out. She has demonstrated the ability to step out and defend on the perimeter while also handling assignments inside. She can block shots, run the floor, and make an impact in transition. Young plays with noticeable energy and passion, and that combination of size, versatility, and effort should allow her to set the tone at the showcase. Stamper plays with a high basketball IQ and does a good job of taking what the defense gives her. She has good court vision, a natural feel for the game, and the ability to make plays for herself and her teammates. Her scoring ability, versatility, and basketball IQ will allow her to make an immediate impact on the Ponte Vedra roster. Stamper is a young playmaker who will also be looking to set the tone this weekend at the Freshman Showcase.
