P2W Michigan Jam Live 3v3 Preview: Mismatch Inevitable

Back in the summer of 2024, I played NBA JAM at an arcade. It's amazing what ideas can come from playing a video game. Leaving the arcade, I thought to myself: how cool would it be to create these video game graphics with ratings for some of Michigan's top high school dynamic duos? From there, the PGH Michigan Jam online tournament was born. Dynamic duos have gone head-to-head in a fully seeded tournament annually since 2024 to promote some of the best high school tandems across the state and offer a fun competitive experience for everyone. The fans determine which dynamic duo advances each round of the tournament, who gets the bragging rights, and which school receives live Prep Girls Hoops coverage at a regular-season game. Past winners include Rockford, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, and now Grandville.   Taking the concept and transforming it into a live event seemed to be a no-brainer. 2-on-2, like the video game, would've been silly, so the format was adapted to 3-on-3 for Michigan Jam Live. I have been waiting for the right time, and the stars aligned to make it happen this year. It's been a long time coming, and I'm excited about the teams we have signed up for Sunday. It's a great format for fun and evaluation. More space on the court to defend and attack means there are more ball touches coming everyone's way and nowhere to hide. Every player will be counted on to advance in the championship tournament. Expect to see matchups that none of us would see anywhere else. I'm very happy about the variety of talent, teams, and the exciting slate of games. Pool play, two championship brackets, PGH coverage, event t-shirts, and a gym fit for the occasion: this is going to be a great kick-off to an annual tradition for Michigan girls basketball. Here are some of the prospects who are a guaranteed mismatch for opponents this weekend:    Ellee checks all the boxes as a stretch 4/5 prospect. She has 6-foot length, mobility, footwork, and a comprehensive skill set that's going to make her a constant mismatch at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 on Sunday. Ellee disrupts shots around the basket as a shot blocker and keeps her hands high on closeouts to alter shots on the perimeter. Her outside game is starting to take off, and she's really starting to show confidence as a three-point threat, although I don't expect she'll need to do that much tomorrow. I'm expecting a lot of seal, catch, drop step/reverse pivot, up-and-under, face-up spin finish with either hand, bully ball offensive rebounding putbacks kind of basketball. Ellee will be lethal in ball-screen/ghost screen actions, so I'm excited to see how Midland plans to utilize her on the offensive end.     Alexis will be the strongest interior player on the court tomorrow at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. A warrior on the offensive/defensive glass, fierce strength driving with a strong shoulder through contact and finishing off two feet, ability to attack as a face-up driver, good lateral quickness for her position, and the ability to hit the outside shot, Alexis will give West Catholic a physical edge in the paint. I'm expecting her to create constant mismatches and impose her will tomorrow.     Mia set a single-season scoring record last year and is the only athlete in Michigan's history to surpass 1,000 points in a season. That was playing 5v5 basketball, so imagine how difficult it's going to be for teams trying to defend her in a 3v3 format! Mia can bulldoze her way to the basket, relying purely on her physical strength to score, or rip the nets from the mid-range and beyond the arc off silky smooth crossovers, pocket dribbles, and step-backs. Her presence and reputation will demand all of the defense's attention. Mia is a Miss Basketball front-runner and the top-rated prospect taking the court. I'm excited to see the fireworks show she's going to put on at Michigan Jam Live 3v3 with the Mighty Thunderbolts of Mio.     Leah has length, shiftiness, an explosive first step, court vision, and a dynamic skill set that will make her one of the toughest assignments to match for point guards at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. She penetrates off the dribble, finishes at the rim with finesse, has get-by-you speed, is disruptive on the defensive end, and stretches the floor with her outside shot. Leah has good off-the-ball instincts, and her versatility will make her a must-watch prospect on the floor with Utica Eisenhower.     Evah is going to be a mismatch all day at Michigan Jam Live 3v3. She sets the physical tone inside with her strength and relentless effort on the glass. I'm expecting to see putbacks, drop step finishes, and a Mikan clinic from the athletic forward. She's a threat to face-up and attack off the dribble and keeps her eyes up to distribute passes to open teammates on the perimeter. Evah holds her ground, works hard, and moves her feet laterally to stop drives. Her aggressiveness and non-stop motor will force defenses to put her on the line, and she's going to make entry passes into the post a challenge on the defensive end. Powers Catholic has a clear advantage in the paint.
