Breyelle turned in a strong all-around performance at the Yooper Hooper Showcase. I commented during the event that Breyelle was extremely scrappy on the defensive end. Her aggressiveness resulted in multiple steals where she ripped the ball away clean right out of an offensive player’s hands. Breyelle showed her outside range by hitting multiple threes from the corners and wings. She caught passes with balance on the move and followed through with confidence. Breyelle looked very comfortable finishing with her right and left during the reverse pivot and show-fake turnaround pivot drills. Breyelle’s tenacious two-way effort stood out during the 3v3 segment. She showed off her hops by blocking a shot and anticipated a pass, leading to a steal off the deflection. Breyelle has sharp instincts on the defensive end. She anticipated a spin move, beat the dribble, and immediately clamped down on the ball to tie it up. Breyelle sprinted in and outworked her opponents to secure multiple offensive rebounds. Her impact on both ends of the court continued to stand out during 5v5. Breyelle reached in with quick hands to strip the ball away for a steal, pushed the ball up the court, and drained a pull-up three from the top of the key off the bounce. She ripped the ball away for a steal, dished out an assist, and delivered a great lob pass inside with touch for another assist. Breyelle accelerated with a dribble burst for a drive-by layup and jumped up on the perimeter to bat down a pass for a steal. Breyelle split the gap on a determined drive for a speedy layup, and she’s going to be a difference-maker in the L’Anse backcourt again this winter.

Breyelle is a scrappy guard who impressed me in Grand Rapids a year ago, and I was excited to see her on the court during the Zero Star Showcase. During the 2v2 segment, Breyelle took a handoff downhill with a burst for a layup and cut backdoor for a nice catch-and-finish layup off two feet. She made a good recovery to block a shot from behind and timed up another layup attempt to swat the shot away in front of the basket. Breyelle gets downhill. She got the edge off the dribble and made a smooth transfer to her right for a layup during 1v1, then side-stepped her defender with a fancy euro-step to put the ball straight through the net. Breyelle used her shoulder to move the defender, kept her balance, then powered up off two feet for the bucket. She was active and aggressive during the games. Breyelle swished a corner three, chased down a breakaway to swipe the ball away from an unsuspecting ball-handler, and dished out passes to open teammates for assists.

Breyelle is a promising prospect from the Great Northern Elite 15U program. She started the game with a quick layup off the opening tip and effectively got downhill throughout the game. Breyelle chased down a breakaway and deflected the ball off her opponents leg to cause a turnover–she constantly kept her hands active to cause steals. Breyelle blew by with a burst down the baseline to score a contested layup off two feet and drained a wing triple. She grabbed a defensive rebound, pushed the ball the length of the floor, and split two defenders to score an impressive left-handed layup. Breyelle trapped the ball, deflected the pass, and took the steal all the way for a layup off two feet. She showed her toughness by playing through pain after hard contact and is a two-way guard from the U.P. with great potential.
