Orlando: Forwards Who Were "Money" at City Clash

The guards brought speed and scoring to Orlando's City Clash, but the forwards made the paint a battleground. They blocked shots, dished out physicality, fought for rebounds, dove for loose balls, and finished through contact. The format was 3x3, but the work inside was nearly the same as playing 5x5. These forwards brought the power and made their presence felt on every possession. [player_tooltip player_id='844873' first='Sara' last='Dagba'] came to play and was one of the most versatile players at City Clash. She handled the ball and saw the floor like a guard while bringing the strength of a power forward. Dagba could fill four or even five positions on the court. She rebounded through contact, absorbed physical play and gave it right back. She also stepped outside to knock down several threes, then handled the ball up top and delivered sharp passes to cutting teammates. [player_tooltip player_id='846674' first='Eni' last='Oyedeji'] was a problem all day at City Clash and was arguably the event's top shot blocker. Guards who penetrated the paint faced rejection every time. They and opposing bigs found little room to finish with Oyedeji protecting the paint. Offensively, Oyedeji scored at close range and showed a few nice up-and-under moves around the basket. Her physicality stood out on both ends. She held her ground inside, and once she established position, she was difficult to move.

[player_tooltip player_id='924660' first='Joba' last='Oyedeji'] was one of the most versatile players at City Clash. She was deadly from the top of the key, knocking down three after three. When defenders aggreessively challenged that shot, she put the ball on the floor and attacked the rim or pulled up from midrange. Her ability to score in multiple ways made her a difficult matchup, and she brought physicality to go with her offensive skill. Oyedeji also provided a steady presence on the floor, with teammates looking to her for leadership throughout the 3x3 tournament. [player_tooltip player_id='219786' first='Kennedy' last='Deal'] was the real deal at City Clash, pairing physicality with an elite level of play. From knocking down threes to overpowering defenders on drives to the rim, Deal came ready to play. Defensively, she bodied up opponents and made it difficult for them to get into the paint. She also delivered in the clutch. Throughout the day, when her team faced a deficit or elimination, Deal stepped up with timely baskets to pull them out of trouble. She was the most physical player at the event and her ability to combine that with a little finesse showcased her versatility.

[player_tooltip player_id='1230730' first='Cali' last='Midyett'] was another power forward who brought versatilty to City Clash. She scored inside and out, showcasing a smooth jumper and savvy finishes around the basket. Defensively, Midyett switched on pick-and-rolls, deflected passes in the paint and denied entry passes to opposing post players. Her ability to score at different spots and disrupt the opponent made her presence felt on both ends. Midyett's game and physicality is still developing, but she showed major flashes as a big who can play on th inside and outside. The scary part is that Midyett reclassified and now has three more seasons to take her game to the next level. [player_tooltip player_id='1235154' first='Lillian' last='Mathis'] has a presence that can intimidate opponents just walking into the gym, and she has the tools to back it up. Mathis played inside and out, adjusting to the personnel on the floor. Defensively, she provided help-side support, matched up against fours and fives, and stepped out to cover the shooters. Her perimeter defense stood out, as she combined size and length with the quickness and lateral movement to stay in front of opponents away from the basket. Many feel that Bishop Moore can once again make a run for the State Championship. Mathis will be a big part of that equation.
