PGH Sophomore ID Camp: Team 12 evaluations, part 1

Last week we covered the best of the best from the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase. This week we're back for more with our second event of the month; the PGH Sophomore ID Camp. The event, which was held at Maple Grove Middle School on Sunday, featured more than 100 players from around Minnesota. We saw great performances from some familiar faces, while others crossed our path for the first time. PGH scouts Grant McGinnis, Tony Ragulen, Paxyn Rendahl and I were on site and have been breaking down the highlights one team at a time. Here is Team 12, part 1.    Koenigs (pictured above) had to be the biggest breakout star at Sunday's event. The 5'5 guard plays with boundless energy and an unrelenting work ethic that had her turning heads all afternoon. Despite being one of the smallest players on the court, Brynlee's impact was immeasurable. She handled the ball with confidence and poise, easily blew past her defenders with a burst of speed, and showed flashes of great playmaking. On the defensive end, Koenigs guarded the ball with a gritty, tenacious attitude and rebounded remarkably well for a player of her size. Underlined in my notes was the phrase, “off the charts effort”, which just about sums up the Southland sophomore's game.     Since her breakout 8th grade season at Cretin-Derham Hall, Deleeuw has cemented herself as one of the top guard prospects in Minnesota's class of 2029. That fact was clear as day at the Sophomore ID Camp. All afternoon Isabella made one high-IQ play after another. Whether picking apart the defense to get downhill to the rim, throwing dime passes to her teammates in transition, or locking down the perimeter on defense, the 5'7 guard was in her element. Having already played a pivotal role at Cretin for the last two seasons, we think Deleeuw is gearing up for a big year in her sophomore season.     Standing at 6'2 with a sturdy, muscular frame, Blakely is easily one of the biggest players in the class. In a group dominated by guards, that presents some serious upside. At Sunday's event it was clear that the sophomore from Minneapolis North has gotten smoother and has become more skilled since we last watched her play. Throughout the day Alana showcased her soft touch around the rim, willingness to stretch out to the perimeter and shoot threes, and consistent level of activity on the defensive end. A top-50 prospect with scholarship-level potential, Blakely will have plenty of opportunity to make an impact for the Polars this winter.     Lightfoot got off to a solid start at the Sophomore ID Camp. While her day was ultimately cut short by injury, the 5'5 guard was on the floor long enough to show her scrappy, physical play on both ends of the floor. Already ranked 65th in the Prep Girls Hoops 2029 rankings, Peyton is a crafty, high IQ combo guard who is relentlessly competitive and never gives up on a possession. In her freshman season at Delano, Lightfoot worked her way into the varsity rotation, providing key minutes off the bench for the Tigers. After watching her play with [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] 15U EYCL this summer, we think she's ready to take things up a notch in her sophomore season.
