The 2029 Toolbox: Guards Ready To Take Off

There were a number of them who earned a good bit of minutes on the floor. This upcoming year, you are gonna see a plethora of kids from this class suit up and contribute.    I was in a conversation with a buddy of mine, and he made me realize this class is going to have a little buzz about them. One thing for sure, these girls don't back down from challenges. In HS ball and on the travel ball scene, there seem to be more girls in the class who started hooping early in life and have excelled at their craft. Even during JV games last year, you could see many players' maturation as they got after it. This upcoming year will be a true test of where many of them stand; however, most are just getting started.   I wanted to point out a few girls who have piqued my interest. These are just a few names, and to be honest with you, these guards are kids who will be impactful for their squads this upcoming season. Though we are just starting to dive into this class, here are a few girls whose names you will see throughout the box scores.    She's a bucket. One who can score from all three levels seamlessly. She plays with poise, hunts great shot attempts, and isn't afraid of the big stage. This kid got after it last year, introducing herself to the high school scene. She parlayed that into a solid travel ball season, during which she received multiple D1 offers. This kid is a nominee for Miss Tennessee for her class and will only get better as the years go on. She's a solid two-way player who warrants coaches' attention when game-planning. Look for her to get after it and build upon a solid foundation she has already laid. Look for her to terrorize opponents this upcoming year.     A heady floor general who puts in the work. She is a downhill threat that gets paint touches with ease. I love the way she distributes the ball to open teammates, runs the offense efficiently, and, when her team needs a bucket, knows just what to do. Athletic and fast, she is a solid two-way player who creates headaches. Last season she uplifted the stock of her HHS squad. Teams knew when they played them it would be a battle. Now that everyone is aware of her, there is no sneaking up on anyone. She's going to bring it this season. After a solid travel ball year battling some good competition, look for her to pick up right where she left off last season and bring it even more. A solid prospect on the rise.     A heady PG who impacts the game in a multitude of ways. She's athletic, plays with speed, and anticipates well; this kid is a difference maker on both sides of the ball. She can create off the bounce, utilizing a counter move; she can get a paint touch and finish. She can thread the needle with her passes, finding open teammates for easy shots. I love her defensive ability; she is going to create turnovers that lead to transition buckets. She's tough. She wants the smoke. She is willing to do whatever to obtain the basketball and give her team extra possessions. Look for her to continue to grow and be a problem for the school throughout the year.     A fearless ballplayer willing to do whatever it takes to win a ballgame. Her game is still growing, but finding ways to impact the game is what she does best. Whatever is asked of her, she does that and then some. She is a solid defender, contributes on the boards, and also finds different ways to score. Off the dribble, spot up, you name it, the ball tends to find the bottom of the net more often than not. She is a dual-sport athlete that brings that dawg mentality wherever she goes. Look for her to be a big-time contributor to this MJ squad's success. She's a hungry individual, and it's the perfect fit for a team looking to make a lot of noise this upcoming season.     An all-around tough ballplayer who brings it every time she steps onto the floor. She is a lethal scoring threat that can score both inside and out. Delivers a sweet lefty stroke; any glimmer of light and that ball is going up and scorching the net. She is tough on both ends of the floor. She can sit down and guard, poking the ball away from opponents, gain possession, and then it's off to the races. I mentioned her scoring ability earlier; off the bounce or catch-and-shoot, the ball is going to go in. She had a solid travel ball season and, coming off a good freshman campaign, look for her to make even more noise this upcoming year. Playing in a bigger role, she will be a solid option for the Lady Patriots program looking to make noise this year. A solid kid who has tremendous upside.
