Some of the top basketball trainers in the state brought together a select group of athletes, giving them the tools, terminology, values, basketball IQ, understanding, and confidence to play the game at the highest level possible. Carroll stood out as one of the most complete players on the floor during 5-on-5 play. She was a strong passer with good court vision, but wasn't afraid to turn the corner and attack the basket. Her shooting mechanics were clean and she could knock down the rainbow three. Carroll also showcased active hands on defense, swiping the ball out of her opponents' hands without hacking them. I wrote next to her name “best player on the floor in 5 on 5” which is no small feat at an invite-only combine.     Deadly from beyond the arc, Carroll unsurprisingly popped off during shooting drills. Her mid-range jumper is silky smooth and more consistent than many of her peers. But equally as impressive was Carroll's leadership on the floor. She was a vocal leader – especially for a 2030 kid – and you can just imagine who she might be as a senior, scoring end-of-game jumpers and putting a team on her back.     Williams was one of the more shifty guards on the floor, using her bounce and quick footwork to create separation. She has an intuitive sense of where the ball should go and her fluidity flashed in passing drills where she was a stand-out. In addition to her natural distribution skills, Williams elevates on rebounds more than you would expect for a player of her size and can sink her jump shot. One of the more athletic players at the combine.     There's a maturity and intelligence to Richardson's game. She proved in 5 on 5 that she could get to the hoop with ease with speed that allows her to get around the corner and make a play. Richardson also displayed some creative moves at the hoop that enabled her to get around taller players. Her defensive positioning and effort was solid all day, and she made several impressive blocks for a player of her size. High IQ, jack of all trades type of player.     Haywood is a dynamic guard with a lot of pop in her game. She looked especially smooth in agility drills and her handles were some of the best at the combine. Haywood also looked right at home in 5 on 5 play, where her quickness, energy, and offensive decision-making was on full display.     There's just something about Shepard. Even when she's not hitting her outside shot consistently, there's a competitive edge there that makes you not want to go up against her. Shepard plays hard on every play and does the little things right. One of the top hustle players at the combine.
