WA Freshman Showcase Team 2 Evaluations

[player_tooltip player_id='1900165' first='Adriana' last='Gray'] is a versatile two-way player whose impact goes well beyond what shows up in the box score. What makes her especially intriguing is her ability to play multiple positions because of her size, skill and versatility. Adriana is essentially a tall combo guard who can score in a variety of ways. She is effective without the ball, setting strong, purposeful screens, rolling hard to the basket and finding space around the rim, but she can also face up, put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. For a player her size, her ability to get downhill off the dribble is particularly impressive and creates a difficult matchup for defenders.   Adriana also has the ability to post up, use her physicality inside and knock down shots from the outside, giving her multiple ways to attack a defense. She does an excellent job using her body to create space and is a strong rebounder who can generate second-chance opportunities. Defensively, her size and strength allow her to take on taller players while still having the mobility to defend multiple positions. She also does a great job blocking shots and using her length and timing to protect the basket. Her physicality makes her difficult to deal with on both ends of the floor.   Adriana's combination of size, skill, athleticism and versatility makes her a unique matchup. Her ability to handle the ball, get downhill, post up, shoot from the outside, rebound and protect the rim gives her the versatility to play multiple positions and makes her a particularly intriguing player to watch in the 2030 class.     Brooklyn Shaffer was particularly impressive on the defensive end, where her instincts and understanding of positioning immediately stood out. She does an excellent job using the sideline as an extra defender, forcing her matchup toward the boundary and making it difficult to advance the ball. Brooklyn also has a great knack for finding the ball. I watched her consistently anticipate and pick off overhead passes, then quickly turn those steals into coast-to-coast opportunities.   What makes Brooklyn especially dangerous is how effectively she can turn those opportunities into offense. She finishes extremely well under pressure and plays with a scorer's mentality—something that is difficult to teach. She handles the ball well and competes as a true floor general for her team, when she sees a driving lane, attacks with her head up and reads the defense. She can take it all the way to the basket when the opportunity is there or make the extra pass when a teammate has a better scoring opportunity. She consistently found her teammates inside on the block when there was a mismatch.   Brooklyn's combination of defensive anticipation, ball-handling, finishing ability and natural scoring mentality makes her a dynamic two-way guard who can create momentum for her team on both ends of the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='1897131' first='Olivia' last='George'] has obviously put in a lot of hours working on her outside shot, and that work really shows. She consistently runs the floor with purpose and does a great job getting to her scoring spots beyond the arc. When her teammates penetrate and draw help defenders, Olivia is already in position for the kick-out, and she makes teams pay by knocking down three-pointers. Her ability to space the floor and consistently be ready for the open shot makes her a valuable offensive weapon.   What makes Olivia's shooting especially impressive is how fundamentally sound it is. She shoots with proper form, gets great arch on the ball and has developed the kind of repeatable mechanics that can translate into consistent shooting percentages. Proper shooting fundamentals are not something you see all the time, so when you do, it immediately stands out. Olivia's mechanics tell me she has put real time and intention into developing her shot.   Olivia's combination of shooting fundamentals, consistency and understanding of how to find scoring opportunities gives her a strong foundation for the next level. If she continues developing at this pace, I see a very bright high school career ahead of her.     [player_tooltip player_id='1901310' first='Ari' last='Moran'] is a poised and confident guard who has a natural understanding of how to make the game easier for everyone around her. She plays under control, sees the floor well and consistently makes smart decisions with the ball. Ari has a great feel for the game and understands when to attack, when to create for a teammate and when to simply make the extra pass. Her ability to stay composed and make good decisions allows her to be a steady presence for her team.   And when Ari gets an open look, she can absolutely shoot the lights out. She has a smooth, confident shooting stroke and the ability to knock down shots consistently, forcing defenses to respect her on the perimeter. That shooting threat also creates opportunities for her teammates, as defenders have to close out and opens up driving lanes and passing opportunities. Ari's unselfish approach and willingness to make the right play make her someone who doesn't just produce individually—she makes the players around her better.   Ari's combination of elite shooting, poise, basketball IQ and unselfish leadership makes her a standout guard who has a positive impact on every possession.     Chloe Zehnder was also a joy to watch play at the Showcase. She runs the floor and fills the lanes extremely well, consistently putting herself in position to get inside and finish for high-percentage scoring opportunities. That ability to understand where to get quality shots is an important part of her game. Chloe doesn't need to force difficult shots—she uses her athleticism and understanding of the floor to get herself into areas where she can be most effective.   Chloe is also very athletic and fast on both ends of the court. She has the length and physical tools to continue growing into her game, and she isn't afraid to take on her opponent in the half court. One of the things that stood out most to me was her willingness to follow her own misses. Her length and athleticism give her a real advantage on the offensive glass, allowing her to rebound her misses and finish inside. Those extra possessions can be incredibly valuable, especially when a player has the ability to turn them into easy points.   Chloe's combination of athleticism, speed, length, court awareness and relentless pursuit of the basketball gives her a strong foundation to continue developing. She is a player I will be excited to watch as her game and physical tools continue to grow.     Mila Rose, one of the few players representing Oregon at the Showcase, was definitely one of the top performers of the weekend. I have watched Mila over the years, and what continues to impress me is how much her game develops each year. Mila is a special player for a lot of reasons, but at the heart of it is her competitiveness. She is going to do whatever it takes to win and whatever her team needs from her. She is a fundamentally sound player who has clearly put countless hours into developing her craft.   Offensively, Mila is particularly effective at using her body to create space, bump defenders and get to the spots where she can be successful. Her pickups and Euro steps are especially effective when she gets inside, allowing her to navigate through traffic and finish around the basket. Her three-point shot has also taken a noticeable step forward. Mila is shooting with strong fundamentals and growing confidence from beyond the arc, and she is doing it at a high percentage. That continued development has made her offensive game even more difficult to defend.   Defensively, Mila is just as impactful. She is a lockdown defender who takes pride in making life difficult for whoever she is matched up against. Throughout the Showcase, I watched her consistently lock up her opponent, using strong positioning, quickness and effort to prevent them from getting comfortable. More than once, her defense directly resulted in a turnover or forced a jump ball. That ability to impact the game on both ends is a big part of what makes Mila such a complete player.   My favorite aspect of Mila's game, however, has nothing to do with a statistic. It is how much fun she is having when she plays. It is obvious that Mila loves basketball, and she genuinely loves the camaraderie that comes with being part of a team. The joy she brings to her teammates, the sport and even the gym itself is contagious. That kind of passion is special, and it is something that can have an impact far beyond what happens between the lines and is not something you can ever teach.   Mila Rose is the type of player any high school or college program would be fortunate to have—not only because of her developing skill set and competitive drive, but because of the energy, joy and love for the game she brings with her every time she steps on the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='1879443' first='Kylie' last='Ray'] is a strong, steady player who brings consistent effort to both ends of the floor. As a lefty, she is particularly hard to guard and can take you baseline and pull up over smaller defenders in the mid-range. She does a good job putting herself in position to score and shows confidence from beyond the arc, where she is comfortable stepping into three-point opportunities. Kylie understands how to find open space and make herself available when her team needs a scoring option.   Kylie also provides a reliable presence for her team, competing hard defensively and staying engaged throughout the game. As she begins her high school career, I expect Kylie's game, her basketball IQ, and her overall impact to continue to grow. Her work ethic, consistency and willingness to contribute make Kylie the type of player who can become a valuable addition to any team.     [player_tooltip player_id='1901652' first='Faye' last='Sampson'] was an intriguing surprise as I watched her throughout the showcase. What impressed me most was her footwork, both when working inside and when facing up to the basket. Faye has a very quick first step, and when you combine that with her size and quickness, she becomes a difficult matchup for defenders. She does an excellent job using her footwork to create advantages and get herself into scoring position.   Faye was also impressive on the glass, doing a great job rebounding and blocking out while using her physicality to make things difficult for opponents. Her strength and ability to finish against taller players really stood out. She also had several and-one finishes, showing that she can absorb contact, stay strong and finish under pressure. But what impressed me most was her quickness around the rim—she can make quick moves in tight spaces and finish before defenders have a chance to react.   Faye's combination of size, strength, quickness, footwork and physicality makes her an intriguing player with the tools to create matchup problems on both ends of the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='1870819' first='Audrey' last='Rice'] is a 6'3" post player who continues to learn and develop her game every time she steps on the floor. Her size alone gives her a significant presence around the basket, and she uses it effectively on the glass. Audrey is a strong rebounder who creates extra possessions for her team and does a great job converting those opportunities into easy putbacks.   Defensively, Audrey's size makes her a difficult player to deal with inside. She can protect the rim, block shots and create havoc around the basket simply with her presence and ability to alter what opponents want to do. Offensively, she continues to develop her footwork and post moves, showing the ability to turn and score over most players her age once she establishes position.   Audrey's combination of size, rebounding, defensive presence and developing offensive skill set gives her significant upside. I am really excited to continue watching her develop and see how far her game can go.
