To be honest - I expect Love Smith to start as an 8th grader within this program with the skill level she brings to the hardwood whenever she competes. Love Smith did a good job of showing us a little bit of everything during this Showcase. Offensively, she attacked multiple times from the outside, getting all the way to the bucket off the dribble for a different finish each time she got into the teeth of the defense. My advice to Love Smith about half way through this event was to keep it simple. When she sticks to one single move and uses her athletic ability to beat her matchups, no one is going to stay in front of her and that will apply this Winter as well. This is one of those top 2031's in Iowa to keep an eye on as things move forward. She has shown a ton of promise so far and she is only going to get better with experience.

If you are someone that is given the assignment of guarding Ka'Jhira Moon - you need to stay on your toes with your head on a swivel because as soon as she see's the defense sleeping, she is looking to attack and the hardest thing about all of it for the defense is the fact that Mhoon has a lot of versatility on the offensive end. She can attack from all three offensive levels with success, no matter who is matched up against her. We saw that time and time on Saturday. The team would come down the floor, spread out, and Mhoon's defender would get caught up while she was making some plays on that end. We are going to hear about Mhoon all Winter long as she returns to Waterloo East as their unquestionable leader on both offense and defense. Last season she averaged 11.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 1.8 APG. As long as she comes back hungry and motivated, she should be able to build on that.

I'm not sure what I was exactly expecting out of Vivenne McCorkle during this showing but she did a great job of making herself known whenever the rock was in her possession throughout the day. You can watch McCorkle compete for five minutes and tell that her first goal in mind is to hit someone with a nifty assist coming down the floor. She attacks off the dribble with calculated aggression every time but it's usually not to score. It's to open things up for others around her. With how well she can handle things, she is very good at using angles to get an advantage on her defensive matchups, which almost leads to a sweet assist in one way or another by the talented PG. Don't get it twisted though. This is someone that can also knock down a shoot or two from close AND deep when the defense falls asleep. This Winter we are going to see McCorkle competing at the Varsity level and I'm excited to watch what she is going to put together with the rest of the Bettendorf crew.

Ellasyn Whitmore demonstrated that she has some promise on the hardwood throughout this event and she should do the same this Winter at St. Edmond High School at the Forward position if everything goes according to plan. Whitmore brings that size, coordination, physicality, and balance that all coaches love to work with. Not to mention that she has some athletic ability to pair along with all of that as well. In different moments we saw Whitmore produce with her back to the basket and even from off the catch within 15-17FT from the hoop as she got downhill. Defensively, she is someone that opponents have to know about. If not she is going to end the possession with a tip, block, or deflection in someway in the middle of the paint with how well she reacts to things happeneing in real time. All in all, this was a great showing out of Whitmore with much more to come in the future.

Sometimes when you are put into a setting with other talented prospects, your natural ability comes out a little bit more. It's nature. Aubrey Meyer had this occur during this event. Meyer has natural ability. She stands at 6'0, has coordination, a ton of athletic ability, and she seems to still be growing. Every time we see her, she happens to be taller. At this point in her career, you would call Meyer a CG/SF. She is slowing learning how to handle better while already being someone that can produce at a steady rate against most others because of her natural height/skill mixture. Once she has things click together a little bit more and her confidence comes into play - she is going to be someone that is really tough to contain. We saw glimpses of that at this event and i'm sure we will see it first hand this Winter at Regina as well.
