Brute strength. Basketball has so many different components to it that can make an individual successful. Another thing that can help you succeed in the game is being physical. Establishing your presence and how you do it is an important skill set in my opinion. At the Expo, I saw a good amount of girls who used their physicality to get to where they wanted to go or do what they wanted to do. Having that incorporated in your game definitely gives one an edge.

You don't have to be a low post player to be physical. You can be a penetrating guard who can give a bump on the way to the rim. You can be a winger who can change speed, put someone on your hip, and back down for a shot. Or be a big, do it the traditional way, bury someone deep in the paint, and go to work. Being physical is definitely an asset, and incorporating that in your game gives you a leg up.

Here are a few standouts who showed a little bit of that physicality at the Expo this past weekend. Look for them to do work this upcoming season and make a bigger name for themselves.

This kid is hot, and one of her best attributes is her ability to get to the rim and give her defender a bump along the way. This kid is amazing at playing off two feet, and it was on display as she got to her spots and finished. She was hard to deal with, and she increased her stock this past weekend at The Expo. Look for her to have a breakthrough year, turning a lot of heads in the process.

Bringing a low-post presence into the fold, this kid is super tough around the blocks. Her ability to bury an opponent and finish over either shoulder is nice. Girls receive bumps and bruisers playing against this young lady, and she loves the contact. She played well, and another impressive aspect was her ability to secure rebounds. Look for her to be a pain this upcoming season at Kirkwood. Gearing up for her last ride, you better believe she is going to ball out.

A kid who is coming into her own, she is gaining a better understanding of how to use her body as an asset. She made shots both inside the paint and out, grabbed boards, and did a good job hitting the open girl out of double teams. This young lady is just getting started, but you better believe she is going to become someone that is going to be hard to deal with in the coming years. A solid kid who is laying the foundation to become a solid asset for the Lipscomb Academy program.

An up-and-coming prospect who is going to contribute for sure this season for the Lady Rockets. Strong in the frame and versatile, she anchored the low post. Offensively, she was solid, working block to block, finishing over either shoulder. She defended well in the low post, making it hard for girls to put the ball in the net. She was big-time on the boards, limiting the other team to a single possession. Yes, she was physical, but an asset about her was her ability to stretch the floor and attack. This kid is someone to watch for the coming years. Playing with confidence and poise, she will make some noise for sure. A solid with an upward trajectory.

A kid who is still growing. When it clicks for her, she's going to be super tough. She's a kid who makes it hard for opponents to operate down low. Taylor has a nice jumper from the mid-range and is solid working from block to block. I love her physical presence down low, especially on the defensive end. She's solid at contesting shots and contributes on the boards as well. She's a part of a loaded Page squad that is going to make some noise for the coming years. Look for her to carve out a niche and thrive in her role as she continues to get better and make a name for herself. A solid ballplayer who is on the rise.
