We had no idea what to expect from All-Star Sunday, an invitation-only showcase staged for the first time this weekend at Eden Prairie High School. Although the event skewed heavily to the younger grades not covered yet by Prep Girls Hoops, there were plenty of intriguing prospects to evaluate from the classes of 2029 through 2026. Some participants are household names we've written about a lot, such as [player_tooltip player_id='994855' first='Izze' last='Austin'], [player_tooltip player_id='1055102' first='Farrah' last='Thomas'], and [player_tooltip player_id='834489' first='Paige' last='Determan'], for example. For other, lesser-known players, however, All-Star Sunday represented an opportunity to get noticed – like 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='903543' first='Olivia' last='Holmberg'] of Andover. Let's begin there as we look at a half-dozen prospects we liked on Sunday.

[player_tooltip player_id='903543' first='Olivia' last='Holmberg'] – 2028 guard, Andover

Holmberg (banner photo) is a fundamentally sound, high-effort guard with strong instincts and a team-first mindset. At 5'8 with a thin build and long arms, she's a consistent double-digit scorer for [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2028 S40 and started at point guard for a rebuilding Andover team last winter. Holmberg excels on defense – boxing out, communicating, and staying disciplined even in an individual event like this where coaching is limited and players are focused on showing off their skills. She constantly moved without the ball and adjusted her role based on what her team needed. Much like she did last fall at the Prep Girls Hoops Freshmen Showcase, Holmberg gave up some of her normal ball-handling duties to complement primary scorers like [player_tooltip player_id='667771' first='Brooke' last='Soash'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1246844' first='Nikki' last='Gustafson']. That shows a certain maturity and understanding of how she could prove her value in less obvious ways. When Liv does have the ball, she's quick, smart, and selective – getting downhill with speed and finding the open player. Although she also excels at other sports (we're told she's a really good softball pitcher), Holmberg would love to play basketball at the next level. With a non-stop motor, quick feet, and growing assertiveness, Olivia is a prospect whose impact will only increase with confidence and continued development.

[player_tooltip player_id='1259281' first='Portia' last='Grier'] – 2029 guard, Fridley

Explosive, instinctive, and relentless, Grier is a dynamic young guard with some very real upside. Currently listed at 5'8 with a thin frame, Portia knows how to use her length and quickness to disrupt on defense and score in waves at the other end of the playing surface. Grier has consistently put up numbers for [program_tooltip program_id='712665' first='Metro' last='Stars'] 2029 Gold, coach by DeLaSalle's Ana Garcia. She gets her high-arching jumper off quickly and plays with nonstop energy, running like a gazelle and seeming to be everywhere at once. With terrific anticipation, exceptional bounce, and nice feel for the game, Portia has a chance to excel in the 2029 class.

[player_tooltip player_id='941811' first='Braylee' last='Hinze'] – 2029 guard, Lakeville North

One of the premier shooters among Minnesota's 2029s, Hinze is a long, lean guard who has deep range and a smooth stroke. She's deadly in catch-and-shoot situations and is working to expand her game to be able to create her own shot more frequently. Although she hasn't filled out physically yet, Hinze is already highly effective, and her game will only grow as she does. Braylee earned All-Tournament honors in the top 14U division at the recent Live at the Lakes tournament and has developed great chemistry with her AAU and high school teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1124603' first='Stella' last='Perry']. With a floater in her arsenal, and some nice bounce to her game, Hinze should get a chance to excel at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1134105' first='Kya' last='Crowley'] – 2028 guard, East Ridge

Crowley may only be 5'4, but she plays with vision, strength, and savvy that more than make up for a lack of height. A natural point guard with a strong base and sharp instincts, Crowley caught our eye with a gorgeous no-look dish in transition – the type of play that reflects her skill, confidence, and basketball IQ. She's a vocal leader who moves the ball well and gets her shot off quickly with solid form. Even sharing the floor with an alpha scorer like [player_tooltip player_id='991284' first='Sydney' last='Towne'], Crowley was still able to make an impact, get noticed and play a key role for her group. She earned All-Star honors at the Windy City event in Chicago. Given how she played on All-Star Sunday, that's not a surprise.

TWO MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Natalie Randall – 2028 guard, Wayzata

At about 5'9 with nice length and natural instincts, Randall came late to the game of basketball. She has made up plenty of ground in a hurry and showed Sunday that she has some real upside. The [program_tooltip program_id='713311' first='TC' last='Takeover'] guard/small forward showed soft touch, fluid footwork, and strong defensive presence – tipping and blocking shots, and disrupting passing lanes. Though varsity minutes at Wayzata will be tough to earn, Randall's effort, agility, and flashes of excellence suggest a bright future. Her matchup with 2029 standout [player_tooltip player_id='932145' first='Brielle' last='Denkmann'] was especially telling as Randall never backed down.

Emerson Fogarty – 2028 guard, Wayzata

Just about 5'2, Fogarty played with fearless energy and relentless drive on Sunday and it was impossible to ignore her intensity and effort level. Also from the [program_tooltip program_id='713311' first='TC' last='Takeover'] club, Emerson is lightning quick, highly aggressive, and constantly attacking with confidence and purpose. She challenged bigger, stronger opponents without hesitation and backed it up with nonstop movement and high-effort defense. Her intensity and swagger elevate her impact significantly. A sparkplug guard with a tireless motor and fearless mindset, Fogarty is the kind of player who can change the course of a game. Stay tuned.

PGH scout Ally McGinnis will have more evaluations from All-Star Sunday in the next day or two.
