To someone outside of the high school basketball sphere, it may appear as if not much happens between the conclusion of the travel season and the beginning of the regular season in November. In fact, a lot happenings and one of those happenings takes place roughly a few weeks prior to the high school campaign tipping off.

Said happening is the SCBCA Elite Camp which features a number of top-tier standouts from across South Carolina. The event is hosted by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and takes place at the North Charleston Recreation Center.

We at Prep Girls Hoops also made our annual trek to the Lowcountry as well for the day's festivities. After spotlighting a few point guards in a couple of previous articles, our attention shifts to a few two guards.

Championship teams – such as last season's 5A Division 2 champion Berkeley team – have players that many pundits will label as household names. They will also have players that may not get as many headlines but are still worthy of their praise. Thomas is one of those for the Stags. Thomas sported Berkeley colors on 28 occasions last season and averaged 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per contest. Thomas stands at 5-foot-11 but thrives as a two guard in large part because of her proficiency from behind the 3-point line. She is poised to conclude her high school playing days with an exclamation point.

Herman is her, man – and her play last season was a reason why Latta was once again one of the teams to beat among 1A assemblings in 2024-25. Herman is a problem for defenses in part because of the speed she possesses when bringing the ball up the court. Herman also does not shy away from contact as she knows it will give her opportunities at the free throw line. Herman is also one of the premier defensive playmakers in the state as evidenced by the number of steals she can collect – and those steals can turn into offense. Her Vikings concluded the 2024-25 season with a 19-7 record and she averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 steals and 5.3 rebounds per contest. Herman also reached the 1,000-point plateau last season.

With the regular season tipping off next month, coach Jordan Leath's 5A Division 1 River Bluff bunch will enter the 2025-26 campaign with high expectations. The veteran presence of a skilled combo guard like Tucker will be a big boost to the Gators' efforts this season. Tucker recently played her final season through the AAU ranks with SC Future. Her being able to log minutes at the two and at the three means she can spend plenty of time as a wing. Tucker is a multi-sport athlete who also plays volleyball. She averaged 9.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game last season for River Bluff.

Price is a two-sport athlete who also plays volleyball alongside what she gets accomplished on the basketball hardwood. Price has been playing at the varsity level since she was an eighth grader and took a massive step forward for Gilbert. She played in 23 games last season and averaged 14.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest even though the team as a whole had a rough go of things transitioning from 3A to 4A. Versatility is a hallmark of her game. Accuracy from behind the 3-point arc is something she places emphasis on as a two guard but her ability to consistently rebound is something not always seen in many shooting guards.

Carter established herself as a name to watch in her eighth-grade season at Berkeley. In her freshman campaign – she added “state champion” to her already impressive resume. Carter was one of six from the 5A Division 2 Stags to receive invites to this year's camp. A product of Lowcountry Premier on the PUMA NXT circuit, Carter played in 28 games last season for Berkeley. She averaged 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals last season for the Stags. Among the aspects of her game opposing coaches have to watch out for is her ability to drain 3-pointers and her ability to collect steals.
