There were girls leading their teams as far as they could into the state tournament and earning achievements along the way. Here are our seniors who have earned VHSL Class 1 All-State Team honors:
First Team:
Bre’Cha Byrd – 5’9 Guard – Surry County
Bre’Cha is an athletic guard who plays well on both sides of the ball, using her size and athletic ability to get steals and cause turnovers on smaller guards. She is a dynamic player with great ball handling and IQ, allowing her to see the floor really well. Bre’Cha scored a game-high 16 points in a Region 1B championship win to advance to the state tournament, in which she scored 15 points in the quarterfinals win, earning 1B All-Region First-Team and Player of the Year. Bre’Cha also earned Tri-River All-District First-Team and Player of the Year honors for the season.
Brianna Rich – 5’7 Guard/Forward – Rappahannock
Brianna is a quick guard who uses her speed to defend and run the floor, scoring 7.2 points per game. She knows the game well, being able to get in position to get rebounds, averaging 6.3 rebounds per game. Brianna has earned 1A All-Region First-Team and Player of the Year honors.
Shea Foxx – 5’10 Forward/Center – Galax
Shea is a dynamic post player, becoming the all-time leading scorer in Galax girls’ basketball history. She is an all-around player for her team, averaging 13.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 1.5 assists per game. Shea scored 13 points in a state quarterfinals loss, earning 1C All-Region First-Team. Shea has also earned Mountain Empire All-District First-Team and shared Player of the Year honors with 2 other players for the season.
Second Team:
Harmony Taylor – Guard/Forward – Lancaster
Harmony is a guard who can also play the forward position, being aggressive on both ends of the ball. She is averaging 6.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.2 steals, 3.2 assists, 2.1 blocks per game, earning Northern Neck All-District First-Team and District Player of the Year honors. Harmony was also named to 1A All-Region First-Team in tournament play.
Maeyanna Delk – Guard – Northampton
Maeyanna is a scoring guard who plays aggressively and can put some points up on the board. She scored 30 points, including her 1,000th career points in an Eastern Shore District Championship game.
Jamia Flythe – Guard/Forward – Franklin
Jamia is a scoring guard who attacks the basket relentlessly, by using her size and athletic ability to get to the hole, finishing strong. She leads the district and region in scoring with 24 points per game, earning Tri-Rivers All-District First-Team and 1B All-Region First-Team honors.
NeOndra Kelly – 5’6 Guard – Surry County
NeOndra a true point guard who can run the offense and also plays aggressive defense causing many turnovers during the press. She scored 10 points in the Region 1B championship game to advance to the state tournament. In the state quarterfinals game, NeOndra scored 16 points in a win to advance to the semifinals, earning 1B All-Region First-Team honors.
Michaela Fiscus – 5’3 Guard – Rural Retreat
Michaela is a lefty who can really shoot the ball and has great passing ability, displaying some nifty, on-point passing throughout the season. She scored 19 points, including 3 three-pointers in a Region 1D opening-round loss to end her season, however, she did earn 1D All-Region First-Team honors.
Kaylee Yates– 5’11 Forward – Eastside
Kaylee is a forward who can score from the inside but can also spot up and shoot from behind the arc. Her rebounding, blocks and defensive pressure, cause turnovers which lead to easy transition points, averaging 17 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals for the season. Kaylee has scored over 500 points this season and 1,000th points for her career. She has also earned Cumberland All-District First-Team, 1D All-Region First-Team, and All-Southwest Virginia Team honors.
