Expert Analysis

Competing for the Minnesota Stars this summer, Kirchoff made her defensive presence known time and time again. Primarily an on-ball, perimeter defender, the 5’6 guard’s biggest strengths are her speed and ability to anticipate where the ball is going next. With tremendous lateral movement, lightning fast hands, and a highly competitive attitude, Ava’s aptitude for forcing turnovers is second to none. By pressuring ball handlers, anticipating passes, and generating deflections, Kirchoff routinely knocks the ball loose, allowing her to get a steal and transition bucket, or force a jump ball. On top of all of that, the East Ridge freshman simply never gives up on a play. As a gym rat who has a fiery passion for the game, Ava relishes in the challenge of defense. Each time she draws a tough assignment or makes a big play, the Stars standout adds even more fuel to the flame.

Highly determined, and ruthless on defense, Kirchoff is one of the most relentless competitors in the class. Standing somewhere around 5’6, the Woodbury 8th grader isn’t the most physically imposing player on the court, but what she lacks in height she makes up for in speed, skill, and an endless motor. Ava shines as an on-ball defender. She uses her quick feet and active hands to hunt down steals, force turnovers, and push the ball in transition. On the other end of the floor, the Minnesota Stars guard is a skilled passer and consistent finisher at the rim.
