Welcome to May, and the Around Ohio series continues on PGH Ohio as we move into eastern Ohio for the next few weeks. So far we have helped to promote quality players from Northwest and Northeast Ohio, and today, the first look at the eastern part of the state.
Here are five 2021 players to watch we the series begins.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="91126" first="Bailee" last="Smith"], 5-6 Zanesville Maysville</strong>
Not only can she score with the best of them, she also has developed into a very solid defensive player. She can get to the basket against most guards and has a great pull-up jumper. Can score from midrange out to the three. Has been a three-time all-Ohio player and was the league Player of the Year as a junior. With nearly 1,400 points she is consistent from all over the floor with scoring.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159000" first="Kylie" last="Kiger"], 5-9 Wintersville Indian Creek</strong>
Kylie is a player that does a little bit of everything. Moved over to point guard last season and really took her game to the next level. She is a great shooter, has unbelievable floor vision, and is a player that just has a really good feel and understanding of the game. She set the school record for 3pt FG made in a season last year and averaged 14.1ppg. She was selected 1st Team Eastern District, 1st Team District 5, 1st Team All-OVAC and 1st Team All-Buckeye 8 Conference. Kylie was also a Special Mention All-Ohio selection. Kylie has really matured as a player and person over these past two seasons.
<strong>Taylor Jones, 5-10 Wintersville Indian Creek</strong>
Taylor is coming off a breakout season and has really dedicated herself to basketball and put in a lot of time and work. She is another three year starter for and her best performances came in their biggest games. She averaged a double-double last year and led her team in scoring and rebounding with 14.5ppg and 10.8rpg. She was selected MVP of their OVAC Championship game and was also selected 2nd Team Eastern District, 1st Team District 5, 1st Team All-OVAC and 1st Team All-Buckeye 8 Conference. Taylor was also a Honorable Mention All-Ohio selection.
<strong>Makenzie Taylor, 5-10 Wintersville Indian Creek</strong>
Makenzie averaging 10.3ppg, and made some huge baskets for late in games and always stepped up when needed the most. She is a very good scorer inside, runs the floor well, and finishes in transition extremely well. She does a lot of the little things that really help the team, stuff that doesn’t always show up in the stat sheet. She was selected 3rd Team Eastern District, Honorable Mention All-OVAC, and 1st Team All-Buckeye 8 Conference.
<strong>Riley Tracy, 5-10 Dresden Tri Valley</strong>
Riley is an extremely athletic guard with a very long wingspan. Riley excels in an uptempo game where her athleticism can shine. She gets to the basket well and can use her size to finish right or left handed. Riley is also aware of her teammates and often makes the correct decision to drop off a pass for a layup when the defense rotates.
