Top 25 Camp Notes: Part Six

Over the past two years, Nate Wickstrom and JD Andersen have put together a camp of 25 talented players, run them through skills workouts, and put them in a competitive environment. I've enjoyed attending the first two events they have put together, and I'm excited to see how they grow the event in the years to come. Over the next few days, I'll talk about some things I noticed from the players in attendance, what they showed through drills, some of the competitive drills, and short 5v5 games they played over the four hours in Mequon.    The Milwaukee native had as much length as anyone at the event, and she knows how to use her physical tools. I love how well she uses her length to finish over and around contests in the paint. She has come a long way skill-wise since entering high school, and she keeps improving.     The Hudson native is a skilled, physical wing who looked excellent in the skill work. However, the way she uses her body helps her thrive in the 1v1 work the kids did. It felt like she got to her spots whenever she wanted and was trying different things out there. She is a talented kid who flies a little under the radar in the state.     The Kimberly wing has been among the most talented kids in her class since she got into high school, and she showed why in Mequon. Van Vonderen finished well around the rim and is comfortable with either hand around the basket. The Wisconsin commit also plays at her own pace and lets the game come to her, and she makes good reads with the ball in her hands.     The Kettle Moraine guard has improved a lot over the past year and looks a little more athletic each time I see her play. She changed directions, and even though she was the smallest player in her group, she got to the rim well. I also like that she played through mistakes and didn't stop in skills work. Something minor a few kids did, but it shows some problem-solving ability.     There is always some explosiveness in what Zehner does, and the Top 25 camp was no different. When the Arrowhead guard puts her foot on the ground, she can change directions on a dime. She also does everything at full speed and pushes herself to pick things up quickly, and she did at camp. She plays desperate all the time, and I love that about her.
