Georgia Expo: Team 2 Evaluation

The Georgia Expo took place on a rainy day in Cartersville, GA. However, that didn't stop the action from taking place inside the Lake Point Sportsplex. The class of 2027 and 2028 bought the boom on Courts 1 and 2. These athletes gave us a showcase of what is to come in Georgia High School this upcoming season. Here is a closer look at Team 2.

Mountain just continues to impress whether she was dicing through the defense in the 3v3 games or shooting the outside shot during the 5v5 games. She showed on Saturday that she was one of the best players in the gym. From seeing her play during her high school season, travel ball season and now the showcase, she has shown her ability to add the mid-range jump shot to her bag. When the defense takes away the drive, Mountain has the ability to score from all 3 levels and has great on ball defense. Already has an offer with Mercer, look for her to be on a lot of college coaches radars this season as she is the missing piece for her Brunswick team that is looking to make a deep playoff push.

Harris opened up the floor with her ability to understand spacing and time to score. A player that turned it up during the 5v5 games as she went on mini scoring runs to get her team going. A nice one dribble pull up at the elbow was her bread and butter go to move as she consistently got to that spot and scored. A game manger and floor general that knows how to navigate through traffic with her shifty handles as she was able to get to the rim. A true combo guard that can handle the ball and score when needed.

Machgan is a player that never stops working. I had the opportunity to watch her at the Wildcat Shootout this past summer and she has improved with her ability to score. She is known to beat you to the spots which allows her opportunities to score at the rim. Runs the floor well and is always down and ready to shoot or drive to the basket. Great length at the PG/SG spot which creates matchup problems for smaller guards. Workhorse.

Chambers is a playmaker with the ball in her hands. A player that once the ball touches her hands, has the ability to let it fly from behind the arc. Knows how to get downhill and finish through contact but also showed you how to finish off 2 in the paint. Chambers has the ability and IQ to be one of the best scoring threats on the floor, but she is not afraid to pick up and pressure full court on defense. Pure shooter that doesn't need much room or time to get her shot off.

Ojeme was one of the tallest players in the gym, and she played like she owned the paint. A player that catches the ball well in traffic and knows how to catch it high and keep it high. Soft touch and great footwork on the block. Her length deterred a lot of shots in the paint, and she made sure to get her hand on a lot of deflections and blocks. Puts pressure her the defense in the pick and roll as she scores majority of the times off her ability to roll to the basket and finish at the rim. A player that works hard on both sides of the ball.

Matthews is a player that continues to impress. Her size and scoring ability allows for her to play inside and outside. Has a quick release from behind the arc but can also get positioning on the block and score. Uses her body to get the defender on her back and can turn and score at any given time. A player that can guard on the perimeter and showed why she is one of the top power forwards in the state. Already holding Division 2 offers, look for her to continue to help her Creekview team compete for another championship.

Batson was the youngest player in the gym on Saturday, but she showed that she can play with the upper classman. This was my second time seeing Batson play but she showed she can guard through the mismatches and shoot the deep 3 ball. A player that knows how to get to her spots and sees the floor well to make the next pass. She is only freshman and continues to get better each time she touches the court. Once Batson realizes she is a scoring threat, its going to be a long game for her defenders. Look for Batson to show all the intangibles that will help her make an immediate impact this upcoming season.
