Expert Analysis
Wynter Rentas | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Destiny is a smaller shooting guard. She is able to help the dynamic of the floor and aids in making plays. She is always trying to find a way to get open to get the ball on the offensive end. If she is not the one with the ball she is always able to adjust to the defensive end without a problem. I would have to say some of her strongest moments on the floor are on the defensive end. She is a player who is able to not only stay with her opponent in man to man situations but zone as well. She is a player who will force her opponents to use their dribble and when she does she is trying to steal it and or drive them to another defender. Her hard work on defense is definitely there each possession.

#4 Veteran point guard Smith returns with other 6A state tournament veterans. Despite the graduation of McDonald’s All-American and Iowa commit Addy Brown the Panthers are poised to improve upon their third place finish a year ago. Taking over at the point last season when Maryn Archer elected to go to grey shirt at University of Arkansas, Smith averaged 11.1 points on 38% shooting, 1.8 steals, and had a assists-to-turnovers ration of 1. She shot 28% from three on 136 attempts and 83% from the line. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Smith grow and mature over the years. She may not be the speediest, quickest, and most athletic guard you can think of but I would be hard pressed to think of another who is as smart, composed, selfless, and tough as she is. What seals it is how well she has performed against stronger, quicker defenders. Heady in the half court she uses what defenders anticipate against them and, whether to get free or to create a shot, understands how to create space. She can score but knows what the team needs in order to be successful and provides it. Currently uncommitted, Smith holds offers from division I and II schools.

Destiny has to be one of your favorite point guards if you’re someone who loves basketball. What stands out the most to me about her is her swagger that she plays with. You can see the confidence in her game when she’s out there dictating the flow of the game. She has elite handles and with this she’s able to score for herself or create for others. She’s such a special player, look for her to impose her will this season.
