The season is almost coming to a end here in the Palmetto State. This year has been like no other year in history and I sure hope we don’t have to go through this ever again. Lets take a look at some of the top programs in the Class 1A ranks right here currently. The Palmetto State is entering its final weeks of regular season play beginning next week. The SCHSL Playoffs will start it looks like on February 20, 2021. East Clarendon HS (Turbeville) (5-0) [player_tooltip player_id="124090" first="Talaysia" last="Cooper"] is the best player in the Class 1A ranks while playing for a veteran coach now in Perry Stokes. Stokes made the move over from nearby Timmonsville HS before the season started. Cooper has plenty of attention from High Major programs. Cooper excelled on the hardwood this summer with Team Curry. Cooper started the year with 2,160 points for the Lady Wolverines. The Lady Wolverines have had little problem going through region play so holding over 2 wins wins against county rival Scott’s Branch HS. [player_tooltip player_id="253660" first="Liberty" last="Whack"] is back with the program after taking a year off. Whack a forward has been a nice compliment to Cooper on the floor. Head Coach Perry Stokes is just a few wins away from the 700 club. Lake View HS (7-0) The Lady Wild Gators have been led by the trio of [player_tooltip player_id="171763" first="Ja’Niyah" last="Waters"], [player_tooltip player_id="171807" first="Gwendasia" last="Page"] and [player_tooltip player_id="171764" first="Zan’Dasia" last="McNeil"]. Waters is currently averaging 16.8 ppg this season while Page is chipping in at 12.8 ppg. The Lady Wild Gators finished (19-4) last season under Head Coach Larry Inman. Whale Branch HS (8-0) The Lady Warriors have beaten Estill HS twice 68-42 and 54-30. The Lady Warriors have a big game coming up next Monday with Military Magnet in North Charleston. [player_tooltip player_id="171758" first="Kynew" last="Barnwell"] a point guard has led the attack this season at 21.3 ppg. [player_tooltip player_id="185718" first="Zhani" last="Thompson"] is a averaging a double-double at 13.5 ppg and 10.5 rebounds a night while [player_tooltip player_id="252501" first="Erin" last="Rivers"] has been a pleasant surprise. Rivers a post player is averaging 10.5 ppg and 12.5 rebounds. Military Magnet (North Charleston) (4-2) The Lady Eagles played in the Class 1A State Championship last season and returned the whole roster. The Lady Eagles recently beat Cross HS 53-37 and wait now Whale Branch HS. [player_tooltip player_id="172055" first="Chazmin" last="Bradley"] 14.8 ppg, [player_tooltip player_id="171795" first="Kaelin" last="Davis"] 13.3 ppg and [player_tooltip player_id="124112" first="Rykia" last="Jakes"] 10.5 ppg lead the way here for the Lady Eagles. Southside Christian (Simpsonville) (10-1) The Lady Sabres are led [player_tooltip player_id="186278" first="Hannah" last="Fuller"]. Fuller recently set a school record with 8 three pointers in a win over High Point Academy. Fuller is at 23 ppg this season for the Lady Sabres and recently went over 1,600 career points. Bethune-Bowman HS (5-1) The Lady Mohawks have been led by the duo of [player_tooltip player_id="175351" first="Alexis" last="Johnson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="173103" first="Sha’twana" last="Lee"] this season. The Lady Mohawks will Estill HS this coming Saturday for its looks to be the region championship. High Point Academy (7-7) The defending Class 1A State Champions have a very misleading record. The Lady Grizzlies have played several larger schools outside of the region. [player_tooltip player_id="171793" first="Vivian" last="Bracebridge"], [player_tooltip player_id="171794" first="KaDerrah" last="Beason"] and [player_tooltip player_id="171761" first="Adiyah" last="Owens"] look to lead this squad. High Point Academy will battle it out with Southside Christian and Calhoun Falls Charter in region play. Estill HS (8-3) The Fighting Lady Gators have lost twice to Whale Branch HS and to Hartsville HS 58-54 in the Zaxby’s Classic to start the season. Estill HS is led by the trio of [player_tooltip player_id="171803" first="Tamyia" last="Hutchinson"] 19.2 ppg, [player_tooltip player_id="171781" first="Nykia" last="Mitchell"] 10.5 ppg and [player_tooltip player_id="216957" first="Kadejah" last="Smoak"] a freshman is coming in at 16.5 ppg. Hutchinson has scored 1,337 points in her career while Mitchell now as 1,192 points. Denmark-Olar (4-1) Prep Girls Hoops recently watched the Lady Vikings defeat Blackville-Hilda HS. The Lady Vikings have plenty of weapons for Head Coach Terence Jones including [player_tooltip player_id="175389" first="Anija" last="Jones"], [player_tooltip player_id="175346" first="Dy’Neka" last="Roberts"], [player_tooltip player_id="175347" first="Aijalon" last="Wroten"] and [player_tooltip player_id="175345" first="Aveion" last="Walker"] to name just a few. Blackville-Hilda HS (4-2) The Lady Hawks have to rely on [player_tooltip player_id="171733" first="Rishona" last="Washington"] down in the post. Washington did her best recently in game scoring 30 points vs Denmark-Olar but it wasn’t quite enough.
