The Dayton Shootout was a huge success last weekend at Bethel High School, as nearly 100 players participated in the event that brought together players from Southwest Ohio and beyond.
I will be taking a look at several more kids over the next few days, including several 2023 players from the morning session today.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="329483" first="Keira" last="Rogers"], 5-5 2023 Lebanon<img class="size-medium wp-image-325768 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/09/41-Keira-Rogers.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="200" /></span></strong></span>
Rogers <em>(pictured right)</em> is a natural leader on the court. Her energy and ability to want any challenge takes her the next level. She plays at a high-tempo and will be everywhere on the court. Keira is scrappy and feisty on the defensive end and quick and crafty on the offensive end. You can tell this is a kid that will put her teammates on her back.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Olivia Trusty, 5-10 2023, Bellbrook</span></strong></span>
Trusty has great size that will allow her to be extremely versatile on any team. She is able to defend on the perimeter or challenge a post player in the paint with her strength. The strength and desire to be in attack mode on the offensive end will only keep allowing her to add to her game and develop different and hard finishes at the rim.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="329510" first="Payton" last="Woody"], 5-10 2023, Lakota East</span></strong></span>
Woody has that confidence on the floor that many players don’t have or show. She is a great vocal leader and wants the ball in her hands. She will take the shot on the outside or finish hard around the rim. The way she uses her body and strength gives her an edge on a smaller guard that may have to defend her. Being multiskilled as a guard and post will allow her to make big plays for any team she is on. <em>(feature photo above).</em>
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Anna Grim, 5-10 2023, Centerville</span></strong></span>
This kid is athletic and fun to watch. She is versatile and will be able to play in all different positions. Her mid-range game is tough, and she can get it done around the rim. She will be there to meet you in the lane to block your shot for a quick transition down the floor. Don’t miss her on the perimeter because she can really shoot the ball. She has continued to add to her game and will be looking to really step up for her team this season.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="270602" first="Olivia" last="Thompson"], 5-6 2023, Preble Shawnee</span></strong></span>
Can do tremendous things with the basketball, can play both guard spots with very good handles and a very consistent offensive game from the perimeter. Athletic and fundamentally sound on the court, Olivia can move well, can control the tempo of a game, and push the ball north-south to benefit her team. Gets to the rim and finishes the play.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="157712" first="Anna" last="Swisshelm"], 6-0 2023, West Clermont</span></strong></span>
Anna has great size and is not a player you want to be matched up with. She will leave you guessing with her skill to be able to almost score in any way on the floor. She uses her body and has that physicality on the block that does not shy from contact in the paint. She wants the ball in her hands, and she is not afraid to show her range on her shot. This kid is a nightmare matchup for the other team when she is hot.
