A final look at the morning session has several incoming freshman ready to make an immediate impact this coming season. This weekend, I will look back at the afternoon session standouts. Jade McDavid, 5-6 2025, Springfield McDavid is not afraid to do it all. She will take you off the dribble on the perimeter or post you up on the block for a hard finish at the rim. She has a quick first step when attacking the rim. On the defensive end, you can tell she wants the challenge of guarding the best player on the floor. Jade will keep improving and there are many bright things in her future. [player_tooltip player_id="319027" first="Ashley" last="Pate"], 5-6 2025, Lakota West She may be smaller than everyone else, but she is not afraid to fight. Her ability to always be in the mix of things, allows her to get easy steals and quickly transition to the other end of the floor. You can tell she believes in her game and she is not afraid to take the shot. Her speed allows her to lose defenders off a cut and get in good position for offensive boards. This kid will battle on both ends of the floor. Taylee Woodbury, 5-3 2025, Mississinawa Valley Taylee is a tough kid that can push the ball well in transition or run with her teammates for a good shot on the break. Her court vision is what separates her from other players. She is able to create a strong take against her defender and finish hard against contact. Her toughness will take her game a long way. Olivia Orr, 5-6 2025, Eaton She is versatile and reliable on both ends of the flood. She can guard a post or a guard and will always fight for her teammates on the boards. Olivia has no problem getting the rebound and pushing it quickly down the court for a transition opportunity. Looking to penetrate against her defender, but has the mid-range game in her pocket too. This kid will be fun to watch as she continues to get better. [player_tooltip player_id="319354" first="Avery" last="Whitaker"], 5-11 2025, Waynesville You can just tell this kid loves basketball when she is out on the floor. She wants to learn and get better every time she steps on the court. Whitaker is at her best when she is taking the defender off the dribble. She knows how to use her body and get to the rim for a hard foul or finish. Defensively she is always giving pressure and shows great helpside to her teammates for a blocked shot to a quick transition. She is going to work and keep adding to her game these next few years. Aliana Davis, 5-6 2025, Dayton Carroll Aliana’s aggression on the offensive and defensive end is what catches your eye on the floor. She is always hustling for her team and fighting for the offensive boards. Watching her pick and roll at the top of the key is a great threat to her game. Her competitive nature will be fun to watch as she continues adding to her game. [player_tooltip player_id="319064" first="Brooke" last="Haywood"], 5-8 2025, Dayton Chaminade Julienne Haywood is not afraid of a challenge on the court. She is athletic and not afraid to be aggressive on the inside against someone bigger than her. Her quickness helps her get out in transition and beat her defender down the floor. The fight she shows for her teammates on the offensive boards is physical and aggressive after every shot. [player_tooltip player_id="329486" first="Caroline" last="Hathaway"], 6-0 2025, Middletown Fenwick Hathaway (feature photo above) is lengthy and uses her body to the fullest in the paint on offense and defense. She is a tough match up for other teams. A coach is able to utilize her in the post or stick her out on the perimeter. The best part of watching her is she looks comfortable in both roles. Her aggressive nature around the rim allows her to get good position and make tough finishes around the rim. [player_tooltip player_id="319040" first="Brooke" last="Nelson"], 5-7 2025, Springfield An explosive step to the rim, Brooke plays above her years. She can go baseline and finish, not afraid of contact. She excels in the transition game and can push hard north-south. Like her sister, she will make an immediate impact at the high school level. [player_tooltip player_id="319041" first="Carly" last="Nelson"], 5-8 2025, Spingfield She is also very fundamental and skilled for a freshman. All of the summer basketball she plays has paid off where she is established as one of the top freshman in the area. Good perimeter game, will make things happen. Amyannah Tucker, 5-5 2025, Troy Tucker is a great communicator and floor general when she is on the floor. She runs the floor well and can attack off the dribble against her defender. She is at her best when using the pick and roll game while being able to really turn the corner or read her teammates off the screen for an easy dish or kick out to a shooter. It will be exciting to watch her game develop the next few years. Mackenzie Dixon, 5-7 2025, Indian Lake Young and continuing to improve as she looks to be a part of a balanced, experienced team this winter. Works hard and showed good fundamentals toward the game. As her game grows, so will her ability to be a factor this season, Syenna Purdin, 5-7 2025, Mississinawa Valley The other half of what is expected to be the young leaders of an improving Blackhawks program this season. Purdin was impressive and hasn’t even scratched the surface of her career. Can rebound and is a smart, heady player ready to make her mark. Haylee Edwards, 5-6 2025, Indian Lake Haylee does not shy away from contact. She can attack off the dribble and she is not afraid of a hard finish at the rim. She moves well without the ball and gives her teammates easy passes on the perimeter when they are attacking. Edwards has a lot to add to her game with the skill to be able to do so in the next few years. [player_tooltip player_id="319030" first="Jordan" last="Ritchie"], 5-8 2025, Twin Valley South Jordan is ready for her shot when it gets to her. She has a quick release that allows her to be ready for a kick out from the post on the wing. She gets out in transition and can space the floor well to be an offensive threat while she is on the floor. She is young and you can tell she loves the game. It will be fun to watch her develop over the years.
