Continue ReadingIt weas a great week of basketball around Ohio, and I was focused on several games around the Dayton area. I also had the chance to see a couple of other players put on a good show as over the next few days, I will look at the top players in Week 3.
The games I viewed last week include Middletown Madison at Preble Shawnee, Arcanum at Dixie, Franklin at Bellbrook, Milton Union at Bethel. I also spoke to a couple of coaches about a couple of other players who stood out.
Week 3 Top Upperclassmen- Part 1
Kelly Griffin, 5-4 2023, Bellbrook- Outstanding guard with incredible court sense. Love the way she can command a game as the quarterback on the floor. She is a complete point guard with excellent handles and leadership. Her vision to find her teammates is uncanny and will get the best shot option for her team. Solid defender and can apply good pressure on-ball.
Addie Lloyd Addie Lloyd 5'6" | CG Franklin | 2023 OH , 5-5 2023, Frankin- She was a Dayton Super 60 player when the season began and does things on the floor besides score for her team. As her role increases, her scoring will also have to, but she plays good defense, handles the ball well and will look for her teammates. Always looking to raise her game to another level, playing with Team Ohio in the summer.
Karley Moore Karley Moore 5'10" | SF Bethel Tipp City | 2023 State OH , 5-11 2023, Tipp City Bethel- Very much improved and her hard work is paying off. She has taken her game to another level and showed a good skillset in their loss to Milton Union last week, plus a win over Northridge. Her outside game continues to come along, she can also make things happen around the rim, has good footwork and finishes well. Long and athletic which creates havoc for her opponent. Morgan McCoy, 6-1 2023, Portsmouth Clay- She had a big game last week with 16 points and 24 rebounds, a single game school rebounding record. She is working hard to learn to use her size and makeup to become a dominant rebounder and post presence. She had a late start in basketball but her drive and determination on and off the court leads everyone to believe she can overcome any challenges put in front of her.
Olivia Thompson Olivia Thompson 5'6" | CG Preble Shawnee | 2023 OH , 5-8 2023, Preble Shawnee- She always shows very good range from the perimeter, and she is not afraid to let it fly if she is open. She is very shifty and agile and can work around the rim and score. She is a smooth and strong player who can defend and create turnovers, and is able to capitalize in transition.
Campbell Jewel, 5-7 2023, Preble Shawnee- She is a fun guard to watch, as she possesses an incredible amount of athleticism. Campbell can run the show, has very good speed and can get by her defender and finish. She is heading to the Univ. of Michigan on a soccer scholarship, but she does possess skills to play hoops at the next level. Great on ball defender with active hands.
Ella Campbell, 5-10 2023, Middletown Madison- She was really impressive as I have not seen her play in a couple of years. I thought she had good skill as a freshman, now two years later she showed a lot of maturity and leadership. She has good range behind the arc and can position herself on the boards. She does a nice job at rebounding against a bigger player, she moves well and is able to get in position to score. I liked her footwork and good body control.
