Like most players on this list, Tatum Green battled all game on defense. She used her length to alter shots and get into passing lanes and was great on that side of the ball all game. She attacked the rim and made many nice moves to evade players in the paint. She finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Heading into the half St. John’s only led by 4. Delaney Thomas Delaney Thomas 6’2″ | C St. John’s College | 2023 State MD had 4 points and was on the bench most of the half with foul trouble. She had a productive second half scoring 9 points and finishing with 13 for the game. She converted at the line late, and her coming alive was the biggest reason St. John’s took control of the game in the second half.
The player of the game today was Carolae Barton Carolae Barton 6’2″ | PF St. John’s College | 2024 State MD . Carolae did a fantastic job battling with Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA and shutting her down on defense. Carolae rebounded at a high level and scored around the rim. She was everywhere on the court, and she made her presence felt. She converted a big and 1 after PVI hit a 3 and seemed to gain a little momentum. She finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds in a terrific performance.
It’s hard for me to say that someone with 4 points and 4 fouls stood out, but Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA did. This year, Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA ‘s specialty has been interior defense. She exemplified this against St. John’s all game. She was terrific on defense and made life difficult for St. John’s in the paint. She had 3 blocks and 8 rebounds, which was a big part of why PVI stayed in that game. St. John’s only scored 48 points, and that was because of Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA , amongst other things.
PVI’s offense struggled for much of the game, but a bright spot for me was Anna Kunzwiler Anna Kunzwiler 5’9″ | CG Paul VI | 2023 State VA . She played hard and was PVIs best offensive player in the second half. She knocked down a three that seemed like a momentum change, and she scored 7 of PVIs 19 second-half points. She was perfect from the line and finished with 9 points.
