Boston Bates took over in the first quarter when her team needed a bucket attacking the basket and scoring from the midrange even with hands in her face. She crashed the boards on offense cleaning up the glass and scoring off second chances. She continued to come out attacking in the second half getting the open look from her work without the ball and knocking them down off the dribble.

Boston Bates officially surpassed the 1,000 point milestone, and the fun thing about her as a player is she does so much more than score. She plays with high intensity every minute that she’s on the court being able to constantly move finding the openings and shifting the defense. She can score on all levels using change of direction moves making her defenders lose their footing. Her defense is always an asset being able to guard any tough opponent knowing how to slow down an offense and protect the basket.

Boston really got going late in the game Saturday as she inserted her will to help her team win. She scored on back to back baskets late in the 4th to keep her team within striking distance. She then hit another big three which cut the deficit to three with under a minute left to go in the game. The 4th quarter became her time as she hit some big time shots that kept her team alive. I love the way she continues to be aggressive offensively to go along with the defense that we have grown accustomed to seeing her play.

Boston continues to move up the PGH North Carolina rankings and we expect her rise to continue this season. It’s not often you see a player accept the challenge of defending one of the best guards in the country, all while heavily contributing to her team’s offense. Boston’s name has been mentioned several times as a defensive specialist but her ability to run the PG position continues to improve as she constantly looks to get others involved. She was able knock down a few big three’s this weekend, including a contested step-back 3, as her ability as a shooter is also trending up. She is the player that you will never have to question effort as she competes at a high level every time she steps on the court.

was a dominant presence over the past year for North Meck. On defense, she typically takes on the best player on the opposing side being quick laterally to keep them in front of her, and she doesn’t back down from stripping the ball away from them taking advantage of the steal. Her aggressiveness translates well to the offensive side of the ball as she attacks the basket being able to drive past anyone who tries to stop her. With the Vikings graduating some prominent seniors from their line up, look for her to get the ball more and continue to play strong on both ends of the court.

It is obvious that Boston has stayed committed to continuing to develop her game. She continues to be an elite defender but has added more tools to her offensive bag. She did an excellent job running the PG position and constantly stayed in attack mode. She is not afraid to go to rim and appears to embrace contact. She was able to hit the mid range jumper and also drained a 3 from way downtown. She is just a player who consistently gets after it and takes pride in giving everything she has on each and every play.

plays well on both ends stripping the ball from her opponents and pushing it the other direction battling through contact for some points on fast breaks. She was handling the ball well facilitating offenses and making some nice moves relocating after the pass. She plays with a high intensity throughout the game bringing energy to her team on both ends of the court.

There is a ton of upside for this All-District Guard who had a phenomenal 2022-2023 campaign for North Meck. Boston is a lock down defender who takes pride in her defense. She has no problem picking up PG’s full court and can wear them down with her physicality. She does a great job of staying in her opponents face, not giving them any room to work or run the offense. She loves to attack her opponent’s dominant hand, keeping them away from their strong side. She plays with a ton of tenacity. With North Meck losing a number of play makers to graduation, we except Boston to seamlessly slide in to carry a bulk of the load on offense next season. Already showing 3 level scoring capabilities and scoring 26 points in a game in January, we don’t expect this to be an issue.
