I was in attendance for all 12 games at the tournament, and here is my 5-player all-tournament team regardless of division. Players must play in both the semis and finals to be eligible for this honor.
What a show for the Ohio Ms. Basketball as Dee led Purcell Marian to the state title. She had 34 in the state semis to get the Cavaliers into the finals, then the sophomore dropped 20 points in the finals shooting 9-15 from the field with 10 rebounds and a team high 3 steals. Over the two games, Dee shot 21-31 from the field with 54 points and scored whenever she wanted. She was unstoppable at the rim and brought home the gold back to Cincinnati.
What a way to walk off the court for the final time in high school. Rylee scored her 2,000th career point in the fourth quarter, and connected on her 400th career three-pointer which adds to her state record for career threes. Rylee ended the championship game with 20 points and 8 assists as the Patriots defeated Toledo Christian 52-20. For the 2 games, Rylee finished with 42 points shooting 15-26 from the field including 7-15 from the three.
Great to games for Natiah as Africetric won the state title in D3. She scored 17 points in the championship game which included 11-13 from the free throw line, along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. She opened the tournament with a 13-point performance in the semis and had 7 rebound in that game also. Very physical on both ends of the floor, can get to the rim and a defensive stopper in the paint.
Princeton fans (and most basketball fans) were not happy she was snubbed as a mention for Ms. Basketball, but she finished with the biggest prize of them all… a state title. Sole (feature photo above) is so explosive and was able to create and separate herself on the court. She does an excellent job with her balance on her drives to the hoop and a perimeter game. In the finals, Sole finished the game with 13 points and 8 assists where she followed up her game on Friday scoring 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
Annabel had two very good games at the state tournament, finishing the semifinal game with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in a 60-50 win over Margaretta to advance to the finals. Rodriguez had a big first quarter to set the tone. She came back in the championship game with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists but Chippewa fell short to Africentric in the D3 finals. Great performance for the senior in her last weekend of high school basketball.
