If I’m scouting Liberty, there’s an excellent chance Barney is standing out. The Minnesota State recruit controlled this game on both ends of the floor, finishing with a game-high 16 points. She handles the ball really well and is tough to contain off dribble penetration. She can knock down the outside shot if defenses sag. She’s a superior on-ball defender.

Barney is one of my favorite area players to watch. She’s always playing fast but under control. She handles it at a high level and finishes at the rim through contact. She delivers precise passes to open teammates and guards tenaciously on the ball.

The Minnesota State signee is one of the state’s top guards. She’s a two-way standout that runs the show on offense and disrupts opponents with on-ball defense on the other end. She’s at her best penetrating. She can get to the basket and finish or collapse defenses for kick-outs.

During their first game of the year Barney lead the Lightning with 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting, 7 rebounds, and 2 block on the way to a 72-58 victory. Barney, the dominate senior, had a great game the first night, showing that she is going to be the senior leader that everyone can look up too as this season moves on. While having a ton of younger talent, you usually have a situation where that talent over takes the upperclassmen at some point but in this situation I don’t see that happening. Barney will stay in control of this squad and if the rest of her team can step up, play with a purpose, and dominate how they should, then you will see their name in the state playoff.

is a solid shooting guard, with the ability to put the ball on the floor under pressure and get a bucket when needed. Averaging 18.4 PPG, including shooting 70% from the line, paired with 6.9 RPG, and 4.5 APG last season for the Iowa City Liberty Lightning, she impacted every game she played in. After finishing the season 12-11 overall, 8-7 in conference, Barney has worked all summer to expand her game and bring a boost for her senior year. With a stacked class of freshman coming in, mixed with some experience returning, the Lighting will not be an easy out this season for other teams but instead a challenge wether they play at home or away.
