I scouted the first game of the Capital City Classic which is being played at Seaman.

Washburn Rural defeated Lawrence 67-27 and two Blues prospects absolutely killed it from deep.

The Blues are loaded for bear and will compete for the Class 6A state title and have special players in all four current classes.

Here is a look at prospects from both teams.

[player_tooltip player_id='192821' first='Zoe' last='Canfield'], 5'11”, PF, Washburn Rural, '24 (Kansas University)

Canfield is a pure shooter who can score from three levels. She finished with a game-high 21 points on converted on 4-of-6 attempts from 3-point land. Canfield has a solid all-around game and had the best individual performance I have witnessed this season. She is ranked No. 4 overall in the Class of 2024 and has committed to play college ball for the Kansas Jayhawks.

[player_tooltip player_id='616734' first='Kate' last='Hinck'], 5'4”, PG, Washburn Rural, ‘25

Hinck's middle name should be spelled G-R-I-T because she plays with grit. She is the workhorse glue in Rural's lineup. She finished with eight points and three rebounds in the win. She is currently ranked No. 23 in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2025 rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='827709' first='Josie' last='Carlgren'], 5'8”, SG, Washburn Rural, ‘26

Carlgren came off the bench for Washburn Rural and shot 5-of-7 from behind the arc. She can pop it coming off transition or just find a spot from deep and shoot against a zone. Carlgren is also a hustle player who is willing to work for rebounds. The sophomore prospect had three rebounds in the win. Carlgren is currently ranked No. 80 in PGH's Class of 2026 rankings, but I would lobby for a big climb up the ladder.

[player_tooltip player_id='671505' first='Maddie' last='Vickery'], 6'1”, F, Washburn Rural, ‘27

Vickery is the No. 4 ranked athlete in the Class of 2027 and after watching her play in person, I want to see the three players ranked above her. Vickery is one of the most polished freshman players I have seen. She filled up her stat sheet with four points, seven rebounds, two blocked shots, and two assists. She can pass the ball and plays solid defense. She has a very high ceiling and should improve with a ton of basketball ahead of her. She is not afraid to shoot it from deep, but can improve her recruitment stock and game, by working on her shooting from the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='836263' first='Cami' last='Nauholz'], 6'1”, PF, Lawrence, ‘27

Nauholz is an impressive young talent. Kudos to my colleague Robert Kelly for having her ranked in the No. 16 slot in the most recently updated Class of 2027 rankings. She is a stud player in the making. The Lawrence freshman is the best all-around player in the lineup. She scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and collected two boards. She fought for inside position and played smart defense against Vickery and the other post players for Rural.

[player_tooltip player_id='810175' first='Azura' last='Clark'], 5'10”, G, Lawrence, ‘24

Clark came off the bench for Lawrence and she plays with high energy. She fought for loose balls and played solid defense for the Lions. She scored nine points and enjoyed scoring off the drive. She has a physical game and would add solid depth to an NAIA program.
