Expert Analysis

Summer, a senior guard for Portland, brings a dynamic and powerful presence to the floor. She’s capable of attacking the rim and converting through traffic, stretching the defense with her perimeter shooting, or even going to work inside when she has a mismatch. Her versatility makes her difficult to scheme against. On the defensive end, she plays with toughness, competes on every possession, and rebounds at an impressive rate for a guard. I’m looking for her to set the tone tonight and carry that momentum into Friday, where Portland has its sights set on hoisting the wooden mitten and capturing a District championship.

Summer put her best abilities on display at the Headliners Invitational Showcase and left with MVP honors. Sumer’s relentless motor, physicality, persistent rebounding, hard drives to the basket, tough finishes, perimeter shooting, scrappy defense, and fancy footwork separated her as one of the best players in the gym. She is having a very productive senior season for Portland and will be a great addition to a college program. Summer has offers from Aquinas, Lansing Community College, and Lake Michigan College.

Summer was a 2026 prospect we knew college coaches would be excited to see, and she delivered an impressive performance under the spotlight at the Headliners Invitational. Summer looked like she was shot out of a cannon on her drives. She motored down the lane and scored with powerful finishes. Summer poked the ball out with quick hands to create steals, avoided defenders with great footwork to finish in traffic, earned trips to the foul line, and scored using sweet spin moves in the lane. She knocked down jumpers and turned in a terrific two-way effort. Summer took home an MVP t-shirt and is a First Team All-Showcase selection.

Summer was a top performer for Team Wings, showcasing her ability to score in a variety of ways. She consistently attacked off the dribble, using her strength and balance to finish through contact and elevate off two feet for controlled, powerful finishes. Her spin move in the lane and up-and-over touch around defenders stood out, displaying her creativity and poise in traffic. On the defensive end, she was just as impactful—using quick hands and strong positioning to force turnovers and make life difficult for opposing guards.

Summer’s scrappy tenacity and toughness make her an exciting guard to watch. She took her game up a level in the second half to score 11 of her 13 points with 6 coming in the fourth quarter. One of her best plays happened when she outjumped a defender for a high pass, the defender bounced to the floor, and Summer regained her balance to bury a cold-blooded three. She drove hard to the basket and scored multiple contested layups after beating defenders off the dribble. Summer’s contribution was crucial to Portland’s victory on Wednesday.

Summer is a guard who performs a variety of skills well on the court to help her team succeed. She demonstrates toughness on defense by taking charges, cuts off ball-handlers with her lateral defense, utilizes effective footwork to score inside, and drives hard through defenders off the dribble. Summer is a GLUE type of player who I anticipate will have a huge role for the Raiders this winter.

26-P24 at The Clash. She demonstrated toughness and courage to plant herself firmly in front of a hard downhill drive in an effort to draw a charge. Summer effectively used a sweep off the catch to beat her defender and score on a drive. She cuts off drives with her quick lateral slides on defense and used an effective drop step in the paint to finish with her left off the glass. Summer high pointed an entry pass to finish off two inside with her left and buried a triple from the wing. Her motor on both ends was impressive to watch over the weekend.

In my humble opinion, Stopczynski was one of the players in Michigan that took the biggest steps during high school season. She’s playing for a talented Michigan Drive Premier 2026 team. The squad is loaded with shooters and Stopczynski fits right in. This could be a big stage for her to show off her much improved game to some next level coaches.
